I am posting a simple thread to calm every nutter down. Last year we were expected to come in the bottom 3 but we came 11th with 10 wins. We surprised everyone and our list has become over-rated and everyone has hyped about us making another huge leap this year which will not happen and another point to argue is the sides we finished on top of last year were not that great. So please chill and be happy were ever we come.

No thanks, can never be patient with the disgrace of a effort against, Collingwood, Essendon etc. We were lucky the 3 weeks prior to the Collingwood game as well, we have been patient for 7 years.

I was at the game yes it was atrocious but we are inconsistent. I have gone to 16 matches a year since 2002 and yes it was bad waiting but all teams have bad games and we have only had 3 this year Adelaide, Essendon and Collingwood which is an improvement on last year.

be patient why? because we are a young team? so is Collingwood Essendon and Hawthorn who won a flag! Collingwood had 3-4 first year players playing for them! No more bullshit were to young excuses anymore! Its time carlton football club feels the pressure to perform! You have the players and finances so there is no excuses anymore!

I think it best we move on, and move on fast and far from Friday night. You would have thought we had learnt our lesson from the Fri Ess game. A few good ins, a week on the track and lets get at 'em!

I'm patient with the young guys coming through as things take time BUT not senior players dishing up this garbage,it's unacceptable.Seem's they step up to the "easy" games, crap themselves when they have to play a decent side.Friday night was embarrassing to watch.:thumbsd:

My patience ran out at half-time on Friday night. The players were setup to fail by Ratten's tactics, and I reckon they knew it too. Ratten doesn't have the excuse of being young, or never having seen the situation before. He needs to wise up fast or he'll lose everyone.

Huh?

At the completion of this round, we will be above Essendon and the Hawks. Had we won against Collingwood on Friday night, we would have been above them on the ladder.

What do you actually expect - not only do we have to be performing better than such teams, but we have to be several games in front of all the teams mentioned?

We are far from off the mark - we are only 2 games off 3rd place after a very inconsistant year. Jeez, a simple kick from Fev that he would get 9/10 times would have us only 1 game off 3rd...

We are performing exactly how we should be - apart from 2 standout teams, we are right amongst the trailing teams. On top of that, we have already proven that we are capable of matching it with the Saints.

To expect any better so far this year would require an expectation of top 4 - that expectation has nothing to do with patience, and is instead delusional.

Agree BUT
games such as
Freo at GC
Ess x 2
Syd at SCG
Ad at AAMI
and many of our wins
we have played shocking football
The gulf between are good and pathetic is too wide.
People talk about turning up with your A game. We have A and F.
And the BIG gulf appears to be in 2 key areas. Between the ears and in the skill department - two areas which are hard to fix at this point in the season. Is it cockiness and complacency? Is it laziness? Is it youthfulness?
I am not sure but one way or another it must be addressed now or over summer. Otherwise we will miss the promising window of opportunity that confronts us.

patient? you've gotta be kidding me? age isn't an excuse, its the biggest cop-out and i'm sick and tired of it, we were terrible against the pies but in saying that they are a very good "team", its losses like the one against average to ordinary teams like the bombers, freo, syd that really p.iss me off, the hawks were the youngest list in the afl and showed some real conisstency last year and went on to win the GF, the fact of the matter is after our top 5 or 6 players/youngsters we have some real garbage on our list

Crisis management 101: Be tactful in who you tell to calm down - you may inflame them further! :p

Friday night's debacle was just the 10 goal loss we needed, particularly against our old enemy. We'd become complacent in the wake of beating 3 bottom eight sides. It was clear 10 minutes into the game that we'd lost. Often the team stages a revival but it never came. Though Collingwood played some insipid football also, they did enough and at critical stages wanted the ball more than we did.

Aside from the Geelong game, all our remaining games are 'winnable'. But play like we did on Friday and there will be some dreadful 10 goal losses against Port and the Crows.

Lots of soul searching this week...

we have had too many of those this season

Patient????. Most people on here wouldn't know the word. Unless you win all 22 games and the flag "yesterday", they're all no good, coach is no good, such and such is not up to standard. These people are dills. Fact is you have shockers, even in premierships years, but that alone doesn't define your side. Fact is a developing side will be inconsistent over a 22 game season. Brilliant wins (Bulldogs, Brisbane twice, even a great effort in defeat against the Saints), inconsistent footy, awful losses are all a part of it. We're on line for a berth in the finals, which was the goal in tyhe beginning. Who honestly expected something different this year than what we've seen at this stage of our development? We were playing for a huge shot at top 4 and despite the shocker you must've have done something right to get into that position.

Supporters are laughable. We eat our own worse than Richmond.

I've been a member of this club for 50 years and I can tell you that my patience is finished. Reason being is WAYNE HUGHES AND BRETT RATTEN. Why not make peace with the full back of the century who has got st.kilda's defensive skills/pressure etc the envy of every club.

We have had the opportunity with draft picks of late and money (god bless you pratty) to ensure success. But as long as these two blokes hold the reins at our club we will go no where. MY PATIENCE IS WORN THIN.

Do something now sticks or you can say bye bye to my 50 years of love and loyalty and I'm sure many others.

THEY MUST GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like I am saying, that then is expecting top 4 which is too great an expectation this year.

Consider the 3rd place team:

West Coast, Carlton, Saints, Collingwood - all 4 of those games would be disappointing to their fans. You listed 5 disappointing games for us.

Looking at their bad games is no different to looking at ours. Yes we have perhaps been a little worse, but that is why they are top 4 and we are not.

Every team has bad games. Its as though all our fans think other teams are only having honorable losses...

Like I said, its dissapointing, but expected on your road to top 4. Lets be content with finals this year, and then a bit more criticial next year. The fact that we've shown our best is able to take on the undeated side is greatly encouraging.

Our rate of improvement has been huge over the past 3 years:

2007 - shocking, 4 wins, 2008 - 10 wins with little depth, 2009 - finals side with good depth, 2010 - top 4?

People dont even need to be patient anymore - we will start playing finals this year. They just need to be realistic in understanding that we can't make top 4 straight away...

Brett Ratten is still learning. So are the players. Give them time.
50 years and your handing back your membership? And then you talk about loyalty. Please. You enjoy the good times for about 40 years, then we go through a rough patch and off you go. Please, go and follow the Gold Coast.
Would you divorce your wife if you didnt like her cooking?

Personally I am not worried so much about how many wins we are getting at this stage. My issue is with the process. Our best performances this year were when we lost to Hawthorn and St.Kilda as in these games I felt we played with real character. For much of the rest of the season and last season for that matter we have played with a similar character to the one that has cursed us for many years. If this doesn't change I cannot see many fans being happy.
