Simply brilliant in the 3rd quarter!!!!!
midfield was on fire. Williams was just great, would have been fantastic to see him kick 10, but I dont think its too far away and surely neither is the shotgun.

Or the coleman, hopefully:)

yeah awesome 3rd quarter, pity we couldnt keep the margin. 22 points is disappointing, should stayed at 8 or more goals, think freo got last 5-6 which was disappointing.:(

Agree it was disappointing in that regard. Just a quick question though. How much did we miss Hay today? For all the crap we have copped over summer about trading off so called guns for draft picks it was great to see Dawson play well. :p

Never read too much into Round One. But as a game, it sure was entertaining for Hawkers.

Third quarter: Tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick... One of the most enjoyable quarters since '01. Totally entertaining; dominance...

3. Mitchell; 2. Williams; 1. Jacobs, Crawford, Hodge or Guerra.

ROBBIE CAMPBELL OH YES. If that had backfired, with Spida on the bench, Clarko would have been copping heaps. Credit where it's due; the third quarter set-up and pay-off was unpredictable and it worked perfectly.

Also credit to Dixon; a really good game. Finally we have enough options to force the big, quick defenders onto bigger players, and Dixon sure as heck looks great as a third or fourth forward, rather than as the main man.

Yes it is fantastic although I don't know whether it is such a great thing to take the foot off the pedal and let the opposition kick 6 unanswered goals.

Willow gives me just as much excitement as Huddo and Dunstall and all the more because he hasn't the bulk in build of the latter two champions.

Mitch, please, if I'm around give me a kiss too. Personification of guts and determination if I've ever seen a player at our mighty club and we've had many of his ilk over the years.

And Crawf you are still captain if not officially ... truly a great leader for the youngsters.

And our two first gamers young Birtchell and hard at it Guerra you were great. Dicko please keep it up week-in-week-out.

The thing that really impressed was the first year kids of '05 are playing the game in the Hawthorn mould of putting in the body without fear or favour.

Clarko's game plan of a backline flood in a grid style of players zoning off rather than taking up conventional positions didn't look good early but when the boys got the complete plan working, that is a way in which to attack out of the flood, it was really effective and bamboozled the Freo boys and coach Connelly.

In celebration let me take the booze out of bamboozeled and crack a ....

Last ten minutes were poor.

That aside, can't complain to much about that!

Nice start, best thing was none of that chipchipchip rubbish. Clean quick ball movement, hard running, tackling. Reasonably clean (still a few shockers) foot disposal.

More please.

Congrats. Always good to get the first game out of the way.

Havent heard or watched the game but look eager to see who did what. :thumbsu:

We were very lucky to have an outstanding third quarter, otherwise we'd have been steamrolled when we ran out of legs in the end.
Very happy for the win, but I think we'll need to play all four quarters to post another four points next weekend.

Can't wait to see this grid setup in the flesh next Sunday at TD.

Mate, we WON. As I think we will all acknowledge the last 10 minutes we went to sleep but it didnt matter, we had won. I think they were all thinking about next week, the recovery, not getting injured etc. We need 12 more wins - how we get them is slightly irrelevant.

Example: If we win beating a team that has 2 of their guys run into each other and knock themselves out and 2 others do their knee (no fault by Hawks) what do you want Hyper, us to say, sorry, we won't try and win?

Our inexperienced backline of Dawson & Birchall, our hero of the CHB last year Croad playing up forward, Guerra playing his first league game for the Hawks in a role where he is normally a forward beat a couple of top league performers in Pavlich, McPharlin Farmer & co for 90 minutes out of 100. Personally I'd take that any day or night of the week, anytime.

:) smile mate, we Won.

Sorry guys... my tone must have been a little bit off :)
I was jumping up and down like any other lunatic hawks supporter every time Willow gracefully sailed the ball in between the sticks... I just hope you're right in thinking that we slowed down intentionally rather than just running out of steam. I guess we'll see over the coming weeks if our young legs can go the distance. It's certainly an exciting time to be on board, that's for sure.
