Far-West Footy: a Brazilian blog about footy and Port

I am a Brazilian who has recently fell in love with footy and the Port Adelaide Football Club. It has happened by accident, since I have never been in Australia. Well, I have started a blog to tell my story and how it is developing. There are more than twenty posts in already.

Since it is right after a Derby Week in which we lost, with melts everywhere in Port's Land, perhaps, this is the right time to officially launch my blog outside Port's BigFooty Community:

Feel free to read and comment about it. I'm still learning, so probably there will be lots of nonsense there.

"The status quo is not acceptable"

http://farwestfooty.blogspot.com/2018/08/operation-what-happened-power-port-58.html

I concur with Keith Thomas that "the status quo is not acceptable." There is a hell lot of heart and talent in our club, but we miss the brains and the souls of champions. There is no hard work that will give us that. Unfortunately, I have no answers to solve this; just questions... and a suspect!

A mediocre hard-working toothless side
http://farwestfooty.blogspot.com/2018/08/ko-port-64-115-collingwood.html

"It ain't over until it is over," they say. Well, sometimes, it is over before it is over. If the four losses in the previous five games weren't evidence enough, the embarrassing defeat against Collingwood closed the case. No finals! Our 2018 has been a failure. Period.

Sorry is all that you can say
http://farwestfooty.blogspot.com/2018/08/sorry-is-all-that-you-can-say-2018.html

Port's season was disappointing and embarrassing, but the club seems to be holding no one accountable for this. Supporters have lost confidence. Is there anything the club might do to restore it?

Port could really benefit from establishing a Members' Council

http://farwestfooty.blogspot.com/2018/09/a-members-council-for-port-off-season.html

Off-season means "GremioPower without restraint;" so there will be many ideas popping up on the most diverse issues. This time, my weekly "two cents" is a letter to my readers presenting the "Members'Council" and reasons why I believe Port should have one.

The Sphinkley Revisted

http://farwestfooty.blogspot.com/2018/09/the-riddle-of-sphinkley-ii-possible.html

The great winners of this year's first round of finals were Richmond and Melbourne. Richmond and Melbourne are playing the style of footy that Port played last season. Why have we changed it?! I suspect we outsmarted ourselves, here. There is a chance we haven't understood what we were trying to do, and that is a concern. The Riddle of the Sphinkley was never solved. Will it ever be? Today, I try answering it.

"Third Week — Still Mad"
http://farwestfooty.blogspot.com/2018/09/we-sank-as-one-2018-in-review.html

It is the second round of Finals, but it is hard to enjoy footy after Port's end of season. I'm new not only to the club, but to the game. I have been spending the entire season trying to connect the dots and understand what we were doing. Like a good philosopher, I am wrong...

"Everything is about Port - Wingard and Richmond"
http://farwestfooty.blogspot.com/2018/09/everything-is-about-port-wingards-trade.html

OFF-SEASON SALE! Two Far-West Footy posts in one: first, on the rumours of Wingard's possible trade; second, a commentary on Collingwood's surprising victory over Richmond. In common, the question on what those events can teach us about Port. Everything is about Port, after all. Come on! You know that...

"The Port Brand - asserting our identity"
https://farwestfooty.blogspot.com/2018/09/the-port-brand-asserting-our-identity.html

We all know the story: Port decided to join the VFL; SANFL forbid it; but Port ended up joining it later anyway. However, the costs were high. The club was forced to be split in two. Moreover, since there was already a black-and-white Magpies in the AFL, Port needed to change its nickname and colors. The parts were reunited, but Port continues carrying two brands: Power (AFL); Magpies (SANFL). Here is my opinion on how Port should deal with this.

2019 Squad Ready: finding Port's Best-XXII

https://farwestfooty.blogspot.com/2018/11/2019-squad-ready-finding-ports-best-xxii.html

After a long off-season, Far-West Footy is back. We need time to get back on track, so the first post is on preseason mode. Nothing too serious, but an exercise to find what would currently be our Best-XXII. Feel free to criticize it!

LIVE THE CREED, PORT!

https://farwestfooty.blogspot.com/2018/12/live-creed-port.html

I know I should have written last week, but I am suffering from Footy Holiday Blues. If there is nothing good about which to write, should I write at all? I don’t know. Here, it follows an effort to tell you all how I am feeling about our club at this moment.

Adding Spice to the Showdown: visitors' stands
https://farwestfooty.blogspot.com/2018/12/adding-spice-to-showdown-visitors.html

My hometown of Porto Alegre is a two-club city just like Adelaide. I got the meaning of the Showdown really fast. I already knew the basic recipe; I only needed to grasp the local seasoning. I have learned from my experience in watching derbies in the stadium that a substantial presence of visiting barrackers causes a tremendous effect in the game’s atmosphere. The Showdown should have that.
