News Fasolo aims high

At 18 years of age, Fasolo is aiming to become the seventh consecutive first pick by the Pies to make his debut the following season (Billy Morrison was drafted in 2003 and did not play a senior game).

“Coming to a premiership team, it’s going to be a hard 22 to break into but I will be doing everything I can,” Fasolo told CTV midway through training on Friday.

“My top two goals for 2011 would be to play one game and then to play two.”

Fasolo arrived at the club late last month and told CTV he is starting to feel comfortable in his new home.

No Problem Aiming High

IMO he is the most likely of all the 2010 draftees to debut in 2011.

Having played some footy at senior level in the WAFL should stand him in good stead. At the very least I can see him having an impact at VFL level a la Josh Thomas this year.

That's exactly what you want to hear from your first draft pick, that he is confident in his own abilities, and that he is at least a chance of playing senior footy in 2011.

He has more chance of playing a game or two then any of last years draft picks IMO, and he should be given a chance in the joke of a pre season comp that the NAB Cup has become.

Good mate of mine very good mates with a trainer from another club

They were shocked that he landed to our pick should have went 25-35 mark

They say his ready made and just a beast for his age

So his a big chance

First season games played by our previous years top draftees......

2006 Dale Thomas 16
2007 Ben Reid 3
2008 John McCarthy 6 (although Cam Wood was traded in for a higher pick, he played 13 games)
2009 Steel Sidebottom 11 (can you believe he will be a 50 gamer midseason next year?)
2010 Luke Ball 24 (Jolly was traded in for a higher pick, he played 26)

Admittedly last year we didnt exaactly pick up 18 year olds (in fact we didnt have a first year debutant at all) but its pretty encouraging otherwise that our top pick is given an opportunity. Only McCarthy is not a premiership player.

Good luck to Fasolo if he wants to aim high. That sort of ambition is what the club should expect.

I liked the interview. Confident without being cocky.

At 18 years old, he will have a physique like the player he likens himself too, Paul Chapman, in a couple of years.:thumbsu:

The kid is a truck. Not quick on the brief game clips of him, but he can find the footy, make good decisions and dispose of footy accurately.

Similar traits to Sidey & Beamsy and they turned out OK so far.;)

No hes not, At training friday, he is no bigger than the other recruits, except Paul Seedsman who looks like an ethiopian marathon runner. Chris Dawes...Now there's a truck

Fair Enough but his Body looks more like an AFL Playes Body then few of the other Young Recruits

Saw an interview of him pre-draft and thought he was very well spoken and had plenty of cheek and fun about him.

It was also mentioned many times that he is quite the character and the type of personality you want around a footy club.

Loved his CTV response to his two goals for 2011. Seems like a very fun bloke to share a laugh and beer with.

Where did you see his Interview Pre-Draft?

Yeah he seems he would be a Good Bloke

He could be a good option as a sub some point throughout the year. I personally think the sub-rule should be used to blood young kids. Thoughts?

I was actually thinking of that last night as the kids don't have to play a Full Game

In close games you are going to want your sub to make an immediate impact as soon as they run out onto the ground. Young kids might get subbed off, but not on.

The sub needs to be an experienced mobile type, preferably tall enough to fill a number of positions. Personally I'd be looking at players like Goldsack Leigh Brown and Tarrant - Maxwell is another option but you'd probably want your captain on the ground - , as well as more genuine midfielders like McCarthy, Davis, Krakeouer, Johnson, Buckley etc

probably a non-issue, but i've been thinking about the sub player, and how he needs to prepare himself for the game. ideally he should be warmed up ready to go just in case an injury happens, but does that mean he warms up with the others at the start of the game, then continues getting massages and doing run throughs along the boundary until he's called or something? I'm sure the physios and what not are going to be on top of it, but it will definitely be a talking point if a sub is warmed up, and then is allowed to get a bit cold and tight waiting till the 4th quarter for example, and is immediately called upon and does a hammy.
