I know that you and the Swans are both eligible for Jake Williams. I have heard that you guys have another couple of eligible kids though? Who are they, and who is most likely to be picked up?

I think the Swans would jump at the chance to pick up Williams at pick 49 - bearing in mind that if he's your second choice father/son selection you would be expected to use pick 19 on him. Would he be worth that in this draft?

Apart from Jake Williams, We also have Sam Sheldon and Tommi Johnston available to be taken under F/S.

Earlier in the season, I would have said Sheldon is leading the race, but I have swayed in favour of Williams who has been really impressive as of late.

We would definitely not take 2 father son selections this year, but we may use one of our later picks on another one of them. So right now I would say the order is Williams, Sheldon and then Johnston. All good players. Wlliams would be worth the pick. Sheldon would probably be picked up using a later pick as some other clubs may be interested in him, and he may not last until the rookie draft. Johnston is simply too light to be considered ATM. Could be picked as a rookie, but I doubt it. Maybe next year.

Not worth pick 19, and the second player is sam Sheldon, who can nominate for the draft next year.

I don't think we'll take any of them as Father/Son selections this year.

Sheldon will more than likely not nominate until next year and there are better prospects than both Williams and Johnston availabe at Pick 35.

Williams and Johnston cannot nominate as Father/Son's next year.

Sam Sheldon won't be nominating this year. We'll pick him up next year.

Jake Williams would be a 60's to rookie pick, so I'd be disappointed if we used 35 on him. I know this sounds familiar but, he's too slow and can only play as an in-and-under midfielder. In a further irony, there's a very good chance he'll go to Sydney under the F/S because they're in a position to experiment and 49 is a lot closer to his value. Maybe we can trade for him when he gets really good to complete that irony...

Tomi Johnston isn't good enough to go in the main draft. Rookie Selection is possible.

Music to my ears and a smart move if we choose this path. :thumbsu: :)

They can have him if we're not going to pick him up. :) :thumbsu:

Too small and we seem to have a lot of players who are similar to Tomi Johnston.

Is there any chance that Carlton can pick up a 201 cms 90 kg ruck who is young?

We'll you'd hope so. Kurt Tippett and Brent Renouf are a shot at 17/19 respectively, although I'm not sure they're worth a pick that high at this point. Maybe Tippett is.

Ryan Crozier could go anywhere from fourth round to rookie draft and has a lot of upside. I would look at getting him at 51 or 67.

Daniel Batson should also get re-drafted (or retained depending on when new draft rules come into effect.)

Regardless of whether we would or not, do Blues have first dibs on Williams as a f/son selection, or is it whoever gets in first between Blues and Sydney?
Greg played one more game for us than Sydney, so we have priority. The kid's got to agree to it of course.

i think if he had choice he'd come to the blues, because he won't get a game next year at sydney and carlton are on the up

It doesn't work like that.

It is simply a case of the player's choice if both Carlton and Syndey state that they want him as a father/son selection. ie/ where the Cloke's chose Collingwood over Richmond.

Having only seen Jake Williams in action once (on GF Day)** he doesn't look like he's worth Pick 35. He got lots of touches, mostly in the 1st Qtr, but there were at least 10 players ahead of him on the day. He was shut out pretty effectively after Qtr time - a reflection of his pace holding him back methinks. Still, I'd love to see him in the navy blue if he slid through to the later rounds.

Sam Sheldon looked good when he came on, especially since he was underdone. If you're right, and he holds back to nominate next year, he'd be a great F/S pick up.

** I'm fully aware of the limitations of basing my opinion on one performance, and I'm happy to be corrected by others who've seen more of him...

I'd be picking the F/S selections up in the rookie draft considering that they are rating this so called 'Super Draft' the best quality of players since 2001!!

not questioning you, but is this true. I heard it was simply the best ever. How has the 2001 draft been decided upon bluesfan ?

based on the general quality... in fact since when has a better top three been produced? Hodge Ball Judd...

between them they have:

2 years experience as captains
a brownlow medal
a premiership medallion
each has won a club b & f (i could be wrong on this one...)
All Australian representation
A Norm smith medal

Looks like none of them this year - at least for a third round pick. I expect we'll pick at least one of them with a late pick if they're available.

It would cut me to see them starring in an opposition jumper - I hope we've made the right decision.

And the rumours about Sheldon deferring seem to be right.

Good news about Sam, let's hope he stays fit and tears it up in the TAC next year, welll done mate, hopefully welcome to the Blues in 2008

CARLTON is believed to have said no to drafting two teenage sons of premiership dads and will wait 12 months to decide on the third.

The Blues have decided not to take Tom Johnston -- son of Wayne -- and Jake Williams -- son of Greg -- under the father-son rule. And Sam Sheldon -- Ken's son, who is still in Year 11 -- has decided against nominating for the draft.
Williams and Johnston are now eligible to be drafted and/or rookie-listed by the other 15 clubs. They could also still be rookie-listed by the Blues.
The competition's 16 teams today lodge their first list which will comprise a maximum of 35 players, rookie promotions, father-son selections and retained rookies.
Carlton officials said last night any announcement on the father-sons would be made today.
Wayne Johnston last night had not heard of a decision.
"I would like to hope so, but I can't help you," he said.
Ken Sheldon last night confirmed his son would wait another year.

I have watched all 3 play atleast one game this year. Watched a lot of Sam and Jake though. Sam was plagued by injuries but came well in the Grandfinal. None of the boys look worthy of a 3rd round pick. Dont be surprised to see Sydney pick up Jake if we dont. They could use a little hard nut around their beloved stopages.

If not, we will try to rookie or late pick these boys.

If thats the case and both Carlton and Sydney state that they want him, then he will be coming to the blues.

He has already stated that his preferred side is Carlton and he loves the club to death.

This is the sort of loyalty that we need at the club.

Yeahbut...

If we say we wont Father/Son him and Sydney say they will - then he has a choice between maybe getting picked up by Carlton (or 14 other clubs) and definitely being picked up by Sydney.

He'd go with the sure bet, surely..
