Fawlty Towers

I'm obviously young enough to have no idea about Fawlty Towers and the reference.

You haven't heard of Fawlty Towers? The series based in the dingy hotel in Torquay with Basil Fawlty as the psychotic 'mein host' and Manuel as his long-suffering Spanish waiter (He's from Barcelona, you know). His wife Sybil who really manages the place and holds it together (while ruling Basil with an iron fist) and Polly the waiter, who is forever saving Basil's skin, trying to add reason to his bizarre shemes. It ranks as a British comedy great. It can't be an age thing, it's been repeated so often most generations have had a chance to see it. Maybe you didn't get ABC reception in Australia :p. Commercial TV (in this case 7) only had the chance recently to butcher the series with ads and bizarre schedule placement. You may have been - as Norman Gunston ;) would say - OS by then.

Below is the main cast:

Basil at the back, Manuel in the front, Basil's wife Sybil on the right, and Polly the maid (John Cleese's real life wife for a while and co-writer of the series with Cleese) on the left.

Only portentous can answer that one. I've never smacked you on the forehead with a spoon. Do you own a hamster? Is not a rat Mr Fawlty. Is hamster. I call him Basil.:D

Immortal show. One of the best, if not the best Britcom ever. It's a masterpiece. I must have seen the series nearly 30 times in my life, and I never get sick of it. It's just that damn good. :thumbsu:

You forgot the Major he is sensational

Papers in fawlty?

Or the time he tried to shoot the rat with that high powered rifle

Look at the tie that John Cleese is wearing!

No wonder I avoided the show. :p

But really I prefer American humour over anything English.
I'm going to pretend I didn't read the above heresy. :)

Yeah, and then Fawlty kneed him in the balls so he could take the rifle off him. :D
