He's not a defender but to tell you the truth I have not seen Fevola look more determined than when he played at FB on Lloyd. Sure he had a couple kicked on him but they were nothing goals. I think that he should spend a bit more time there learning - he looked comfortable after he decided in his head that he'd actually have a dip. Maybe he needs to learn at FB and CHB and we go with Morrell, Waite, S.O'hAilpin, Hartlett, Raso, Deluca, Bryan, Fisher and this years draftees up forward more than Fev? At least Fev is quick, strong, hard at it and can actually spoil. He'd be stronger than guys like Norman, Thornton and Livingston. To his credit after initially looking like a duck out of water he fought hard and I think was better on Lloyd than he has been for a month or more.

Yes Paddy but at the money he is on from next year I would prefer to trade him than play him at full back. He is a full forward who might need to move up the ground for a change once in a while but if he does not perform there then we need to make a change. Either Fev changes his attitude or he is to much of a risk.
He is injured but it is the attitude that is the problem. Denis cant be worrying about a 24 year old 100 game player. He is the one who should be showing the way to the youngsters.
Problem is Bentick and co are the ones who show the older players how to go about it.

IMO its a good thing for any FF who is struggling for a kick to spend a bit of time at FB or away from FF.

it gives them a release and a new challenge and also a reminder how hard you have to work to be a good FF also how hard your teammates have to work to get the ball to FF.

when silvagni arrived at carlton he was a FWD, robert walls sent him to BACK line to learn the game of football and had intentions to move him back to the FWD line, but he turned into a gun FB and the rest is history.

i'm not comparing FEV to SOS but pointing out stints in the opposite 1/2 of the ground can be a good thing.

FEV's attitude is not the best but he has improved heaps over the last 3 years, there is still more room for improvement and hearing him speak he knows this and is working on it.

I agree bibi. I think Fev needs time at FB and CHB. Mojo I agree with you that his attitude is not great. I always think the kids like Bentick, Waite, Fisher and Simpson have better attitudes at the moment. It all goes without saying!

The problem is we have a guy who plays FF. He needs to learn the game from other positions. Can you tell me how many times in the past month or so he has looked as interested and worked hard mentally and physically this year than he did for the half on Lloyd? I dont think he's a FB but it does not hurt to make your players more rounded, in fact they ALL need to be. Thats how teams become good teams. More versatile players and teams are harder to beat than those that arent.

Its a matter of short term pain for long term gain Im afraid and as fans we need to recognise this. Fev is on good dough but that doesnt mean you just play him FF and hope it happens, or wing for that matter. He wont learn from playing on the wing but he will, and I think he did on the weekend, from playing FB and CHB on guys like Lloyd.

You need value for money. If a player is on 400k and is not performing then you have to look at solutions.
He is injured. His attitude is poor. Numerous times this year there have been incidents. He has been reported and suspended this year. He had his problems over his comments about the tribunal. He flew to Sydney to watch some boxing when he should have stayed and had physio done for his injury.
Pagan mentioned that. There was the problem against the Saints when he gave 50m penalties away and was dragged.
That is just this year. He was supposed to be improving. He wanted 3 years and not 2 and the board finally decided to give it. His contract means he is being paid like an elite player.

I would have a serious talk to Fevola and ask him if he is prepared to be traded. I would not go behind his back. Just see if he could see himself at another club. Put it in a way that says we are struggling and he might be better off with better delivery and a challening club.
If he says absolutely not I love the club and I want to stay here forever then keep him. Work on him.
If he says I dont know. I dont want to go. But...

Then trade him. Simple as that.

Brendan Fevola is the least of our problems.

Yes, he needs to look at his body language and work on the 1%ers, but at the end of the day the guy has kicked 60, 60 & 50 goals the past three seasons in the worst side in the league during that timeframe.

Yes play ur best foward at full back so he learns........................................................................................

Good points mojo...howover I dont think its as simple as that. His attitude is terrible at times, no excuses. Having said that he has played in a terrible side and fluctuating club fro the past 3 years and kicked us plenty. He's been injured and gets dirty when the ball is not delivered properly. I take on board what you've said about his off field stuff, thats not a leader we want is it!

I just erckon he can play FB and if he wants to sulk and sook, next eyar play him at FB and let him sort through his on field issues - did you nitice how he managed to do that in the 2nd half on the weekend. Not a game in the best or kicking 5 goals+ but his attitude was different, he fought hard and even ran off Lloyd a couple of times. Good signs, and all from FB where he had more responsibility and determination. Maybe he enjoyed FB on Lloyd, who knows!

he wasn't getting into the game at FF, so a change had to be made.

i have no doubt that footballers become better players when they understand and have played FWD and BACK or BACK and FWD

look at Ken McGregor at adelaide, excellent backmen and has moved FWD this season and has been great.

If we want a PP then play Fev. We will more than likely win without Fev because the players know they won't be let down by his 10 year old behaviour.
