I personally think the current development point system is not specific enough. It seems to work at the moment but i thought I'd put my idea out there to see what people thought.

Instead of randomly putting points on one of the 25 different catagories I suggest that these 25 catagories be split into 4 groups, with the coach selecting which group the points go on (with a maximum of 4 or 5 points per group per player)

Attacking
Crumbing
Kicking Long
Kicking Short
Kicking Max
Hand Balling
Goal Accuracy Ground
Goal Accuracy Set Shot

Defence
Marking Contested
Marking Uncontested
Tackling
Defence Ground
Defence Air
Defence 1on1

Physical
Strength
Speed
Agility
Heatlh
Injury Tendency
Health Limit

General
Free Kick Tendency
Discipline
Report Tendency
Leadership
Hit Outs (just for rucks or if specified)

like the current system when 10 points have been used on one player they go up an Overall Point

For Example Dean Solomon who has fairly good Physical and Defensive skills but his disposal is a bit lacking. So as his coach i would say "4 or 5 points on Dean Solomon for Attacking" then the points randomly get put on the catagories in the Attacking group.

This gives the coach more control over where his/her players improve, which I think is more realistic.

Great Idea Eorl.

I will implement something like this into the rules, sometime before next week :thumbsu:

Not sure if it will be exactly as you have explained, but it will be similar.

Good thinkin'!

Development points will be given within the next hour or two.

There will be a few rule changes concerning development points this week. (nothing major)

You will have until 6pm Thursday, the 17th of August to get your development points in if you want them added for this weekend's matches. (don't forget - you can save development points if you want to).

Updated lists will be available the next morning (Friday, 18th Aug).

Development Points after Round 1

Brisbane - 12
Carlton - 8
Collingwood - 8
Essendon - 5
Fremantle - 14

Richmond - 8
St.Kilda - 7

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Coaches may now give development points more accurately!

Just choose a number of development points to spend, a player to spend them on, and which 'group' of categories you'd like to spend those points on for that player.

Your development points will then randomly go to the different categories for the 'group' you chose.

Eg. 5 Dev. points - B.Johnson - Attack

Player's Groups/Categories are -

Attack
Crumbs
Mark - Contested
Mark - Uncontested
Goal Accuracy - In Play
Goal Accuracy - Set Shot

Defense
Tackling
Defence - Ground
Defence - Air
Defence - One on One

Physical
Strength
Speed
Agility
Health
Health Limit

Mental
Free Kick Tendancy
Discipline
Injury Tendency
Report Tendency
Leadership

Disposal
Long Kick
Short Kick
Kick Max
Handball

Ruck
Hit Out (2 dev. points = 1 hitout point)
