Employment FIFO Rostering Question

It's a two week roster. In the first week you'd work five days on, two days off and in the second week, you'd work four days on, three off.
 
No worries. I know a few people that do a similar roster and it works for them. They like it better than two weeks on, one week off.

How practical is it if you are not based in Perth (for a job placement in Port Hedland)?

Just means you would be spending a lot of time on planes.
Also you'll probably lose days of your r/r flying.
Make sure you figure out what the go on flyin/flyout days
Wherever possible if the company is paying for you to fly in their time, you should take it.

Yeah I was going to say 100% but there are guys (just a few) on my site who get their flights paid for going back to Adelaide and Melbourne. Though these guys are skilled and experienced. Plus it helps when QANTAS has a direct flight to Adelaide to Kalgoorlie a couple of times a week

I currently do 3x3 (21 days on 21 off) for my clients by choice as I am based oversea's.

I used to do 3x3x3x6 (21 days on, 21 days off, 21 days on 42 days off) a few years ago but gave it up to run my own business in the industry.
 
That seems like a pretty tough roster. Especially if you travel in your time off.
 
Good chance you may have to pay for your own flight to and from Perth too
This also depends on the client you're working with and what you're doing. For our projects thus far, our clients have covered the cost of the flights for all our personnel. Additionally, flight time may be billable depending on what you do and terms around your employment.

As far as flying on your R&R days, if the company's doing it properly, it should still balance out to your full R&R entitlement. For example, on your 5:2 week, if you fly back from site Tuesday afternoon you should, in theory, be flying back to site Thursday afternoon with a view to commence work Friday morning.

I'm on 5 weeks on/off.. You get used to it after a while, although 6/6 is too much. The Norwegians have it the best when it comes to rotations.

One of my clients is Norwegian and their roster are 2 weeks on 4 weeks off.

Your 5&5 sounds like the old rosters on the anchor handlers or seismic boats.

You are on the money. Certainly a different lifestyle, perfect for a young guy that wants to travel. Once you get older/family etc I can see it being a bit more difficult. Not sure how long I want to do it.

Ah the old gun boats, shooting line after line. I was on 2D & 3D boats for years before the utter Boredom got to me and I had to elsewhere. I was on the Geko Eagle, Geko Beta, Geko Resolution, Odin Explorer and the Veritas Searcher. Thankfully I run my own business now and don't have to deal with the mundane seismic boats.
