Just thought I'd drop onto your board momentarily (and mainly because I was banned from "FTO", strangely, after the Tiges beat the Pies in Round One!!) to check something out which is Collingwood oriented.
Given the Finals system this year, I was wondering whetherit may be better for a Victorian team to finish 4th rather than 3rd this year.
My logic is as follows ...
If you finish 3rd:
- You will be playing either Port or Brisbane at Port or Brisbane, depending on which of those two teams finish 2nd.
- If you win, well good luck to you ... go to the prelim. for a home final.
- But on the fair chance you don't win, then you will play a Semi the following week in Melb, and then be forced to play the team who finished on top, again either Port or Brisbane, IN PORT OR BRISBANE in the Preliminary final.
- That equates to two away finals to get to the grand final.
But if you finish 4th:
- You will be playing either Port or Brisbane at Port or Brisbane, depending on which of those two teams finish 1st.
- Again, if you win, well good luck to you ... go to the Prelim. for a home final.
- But, once again, on the fair chance you don't, then you will play a Semi the following week in Melb, and then be forced to play the team who finished on 2nd, AT THE MCG, as there has to be at least one game in Melbourne on that weekend.
- That is one game away, which you are allowed to lose as you will have a second chance, and then two MCG games leading into the Grand Final ...
I know what I'd prefer .....
