Just doing a bit of research, and came across this:

Aaron Fiora ranks as equal 5th on the list of:
Most Games Played Without Ever Polling a Brownlow Vote.

http://stats.rleague.com/afl/brownlow/brownlow_idx.html

I actually find that a bit surprising - he has all the 'flashiness' required to be a top vote-getter - big marks, 'raking' left foot, speed. Surely he would have had at least one game out on the wing where the ball followed him all day, and he got the chocolates. 'Never Polling a Vote' is the mark of the dour Back Pocket or Flanker.

Actually, I never minded Fiora that much. If he had been pick 33 instead of 3, he would have been rated as one of those many forgettable, running mids - not bad, not good (unless Pavlich went at 34, in which case he would be bagged as he is today).

Who ranked one through four?:p

Hawker 44...silly question! You know he has!

Actually, Luke McCabe is No 4 - now which 'Happy Team' did he play for?

Drafted at Pick 15 in 1993 - and who went at 16? - Fraser Gehrig.

We could play this game for hours.......

The point I was trying to make was that if I was going to nominate a player who would probably get more Brownlow votes than you'd expect, it would be someone like Fiora.

Yes we could play this for hours. Would you rather draft a backmen at pick 13 who played for 10 years and 140 games, or take midfielder at 3 who would go on to play a grand total of 12 games for the club and was drafted less than 10 picks before Chris Johnson, Brad Johnson, Chris Scott and Adam Simpson

OK, I'll bite. Who are you talking about? Interesting to see Judd equal 4th (with Skilton) for average votes per game.

Ok, how the hell did this happen????

I post a light-hearted thread about an ex-Richmond player, on the Richmond board, not crowing or slagging off any other team or player, not even particularly bagging the player in question: -

And I get Hawthorn morons leaping up and down! Even when I try (gently) to get the discussion back on track, someone else comes in waving his rattle, and stamping his feet.

Shouldn't those guys be doing their colouring books, or something?

yes he did, but whether he "could" play is another story. You were suffering from the same shit we were dude. We also had similar "superstars" that somehow found themselves in the right place at the right time and carved out an AFL career, when if they had been at a club that had it happening, would have been lucky to make to 20 games. ;)

Huh? Trent Choad? Isn't he one of your mob? Or is that just latest "cool" American insult all you little myspace munchkins are saying on "teh" internet?

Hawks fans...why is that they love to troll more than any others? Insecurity much...?:o

Get off your board Wallaby and go elsewhere :)

i must admit, the fact that the dream team lost has made it a bit easier to swallow that we didnt get pav or buddy (could have had both) imagine it for a moment (pavlich, richo and franklin in the team) and then banish the filthy thought forever.

Interesting about Fiora, I tend to agree with Wallaby that I half expected his 'flashiness' to have at least obtained a 1 over the years.

Probably not the best stats to judge a players worth though as I distinctly remember Mervyn Keane going a long, long time without ever getting a vote (to the point where I think it was Jack Hamilton who called the Brownlow in those years actually announced it as something like "first votes in 11 years" or something like that) and no one will ever be able to tell me that Merv wasn't worth his weight in gold. One of my all time faves. Always got the job done and those 2 running goals in the 1st half of the 1980 GF are eternally imprinted in my mind. According to the player stats on the same website, Merv must have gone at least 173 games without a vote if my addition is correct ?

160 if you take out finals - a VFL/AFL record. Another solid Richmond citizen in Greg Strachan took until his 128th match to earn a vote, while Brian Leys took 103 games and played only 7 more. Chris Newman took 85 matches.
