why is it when loading certain sites like afl.com.au or cricket.com.au the browser crashes? but with IE its fine? are there any fixes?

In a word, no. Some sites still use ActiveX, a Microsoft proprietary script. So Firefox, being an open source app, can't use it because they refuse to pay the licensing costs. Unfortunately you'll just have to keep using IE for those sites that are to stupid to code their shit so that Firefox can load it.

what specific error(s) are you getting? have you checked the mozilla forums for advice?

my Firefox kept crashing constantly on anything. Turned out I had a dodgy stick of RAM.
