Harding becomes first Aussie wide receiver

Ex-Brisbane Lions and Port Adelaide player Scott Harding will become the first Australian wide receiver in American football.

The ABC can exclusively reveal the former Port Adelaide and Brisbane player has been awarded a scholarship to play for the University of Hawaii.

Wouldn't have seen this coming. My memories of Scott Harding were a very ordinary player, poor skills, lacked any physical presence and his speed never stood out to me. None the less good luck, Scott, just don't end up at the Patriots

He'll be playing special teams, as a gunner, for a number of seasons.

Maybe he'll get a chance on 5 wide formations to run a few routes, in college they do that more than in the NFL, so there should be some clips of downs of him at the end of the year. I figure he'll be running a lot of short hitches, curls and slants.

I must admit I didn't anticipate Sav Rocca to make it like he has so I'll reserve my judgement on Scott Hardings chances (making the practise squad) but sheesh.. just because he's an Aussie doesn't guarantee sh***. I wish him well though. I wonder if he can dance?

Doesn't take kickoff returns anymore, punt returns dropping as well, and is already up to a career high in receptions and on track to lead the team this year. Should be looking at a 50-60 catch season.

It's hard to knock Scott Harding, sure he's a mediocre receiver on a less than mediocre team.

But he's their leading receiver, their punter and punt returner.

Plus he's getting a free college education and gets to live in Hawaii.

I hope he gets better again in his final year next year.

So this past season he has played Wide Receiver, Returner and Punter.

He won All-Mountain West 1st team of the year as a punter.
