Okay Sainters... tell me why you reckon the Saints will win the first round game against the Roos?

Personally, I reckon the Saints and Roos could be in for some good matches over the next few years.

My sense is that the Roos won most matches over the Saints in recent years cos of more experience and 'grunt', with more experienced players, over a generally younger inconsistent team (Harvey, Burke, Loewe and Everitt excepted).

What will happen this year, and why?

I would love it if Goddard & Wells both debuted in the Rd1 match.. :D That would make it all the more excitin..

Hope for a good match

Yep, particularly if all your up n coming kids begin to fulfil their potential. IF. If they do, and we are similarly successful in bringing on our draftee from the past 3 years, we could see some good battles in the coming years in the top half of the table. As for the first game, a lot from our point of view, depends on how well the older guys play and, of course, a bit unknown in how Laidley's new game plan goes.

It could be very interesting! Both clubs have had big changes in the last year or three. It'd be nice if we gave you a decent challenge for once.

The future is bright for both our teams. Obviously a lot has been said about our young list, but I think the Roos done really well out of the recent National Draft, and Leigh Brown will be a great pick up also. It will be interesting to see how the Roos cope with the loss of Denis Pagan and also Byron Pickett, but I have never been one to write the Roos off. They are a very hard and passionate side with some great leaders such as Stevens, Archer, King, Colbert, Simpson and Harvey. The young talent is also there, and I will be looking forward to some great battles in the near future. Hopefully both St.Kilda and the Roos can sure up the financial side of things as well.

Yes I look forward to some good battles. just as long as the Roos win them:p

I will be very interested to see how Wells goes compared to Goddard. Going to be a very interesting 10 years.. watching these 2 youngsters mature into men and watch their careers.

St.Kilda will improve over the next few years.
But obviously you saints supporters out there realise that you wont make the finals without a ruckman with a real presence on the field........... and the ruckman that st.kilda have are average.

Luke Penny is a wildcard and will be a good pick up.

Hmm, don't be so sure about the ruckman comment.

Collingwood & Brisbane didn't do too badly with ruckman that mostly nullify the opponent rather than dominate their opponent.

Dominant midfield is the key.

Yes,

Saints vs Roos in future years is a highly tantalising prospect indeed...

But the Roos will win this one. And pretty comfortably too, I'd imagine.

Expect Simpson, Harvey, Stevens, King Archer, etc to come out blazing against the contrasting backdrop of the the Roos low key build-up. They'll sabotage St. Kilda's young players, frustrating them and causing numerous turnovers. They've got hardened quality, plus 3x X-factors in Harding & Motlops, not mention some quality players who are vastly underrated in the football world, such as Baird, Sinclair and Petrie.

We're not tough enough to hold the Roos at the 'G...the stage is perfectly set for Laidley to reinvigourate that Shinboner spirit so avidly spoken about by Denis Pagan last year.

A real reality check for the Saints and a morale-boosting victory for Laidley's army.

:D:D Cool.. would love it to work out as you said..

But I do have a feeling we will play alot of younger guys.. that of course would include Daniel Motlop, Daniel Harris (Both played extremely well in the intra club matc I hear) and others like Watson, Hale.. among the others..

Laidley's Army.. I like it.
