First Home Owners Grant

Looking at buying my/our first house with my girlfriend. We were told the FHO grant was going, but then I was told by a Henley broker that it hadn't been announced yet but was continuing on for another year.
Has anybody else been told this or read/heard about it in the new budget??

First home owners grant doesn't have a scheduled end date.
First home owners bonus ends 30th June.

That means you'll still receive the $7,000 but will miss out on the $13,000.

Another great way the Government is inflating the housing bubble. Same as having a baby bonus, just for your first baby.

I agree Emu. If they insist on interfering to make homes more affordable for young people they should go the opposite way and make it a first home sellers grant. That makes it attractive for people to sell their homes/units and pushes prices down. The FHOG adds demand on the buy side, pushing prices up and eradicating the benefit of the grant in the first place!

Could they could just abolish stamp duty for FHB?

Stamp duty doesn't apply to first home buyers over here for purchases up to $500k.

It should be abolished altogether or drastically reduced given how high values are these days. Tens of thousands the govt for absolutely nothing is ludicrous.

Even still, people who can afford a $500k house + 5% stamp duty will just end up buying $525k houses...
