McNamee should tell him to get ********ed, why does he think they should make the courts faster because he wants them to, the is 128 players in the mens and womens draw, so why does he think he should take priority

They do seem a bit too slow though. They should be brought up to the speed of the Sydney courts. You ask any professional Tennis player what they think of the court, and 2/3rd will answer that it's too slow.

true, watching it on tv, the players arent getting any reward for shots. a cross court is playing about as fast as a standard top spinner- players who use the angles like hewitt and grosjean dont get rewarded. having said that, hewitt hasnt played well and cant blame the court

I have noticed that other Australians (eg Arthurs, Poo) seem to have joined the chorus in the last few years and still are a part of the court whingers.

Maybe this suggests to me the very reason why Australia cannot go anywhere in men's tennis. Top be the best you have to put up with all coyurt surfaces and accept that and just get on and win.

Unfortunately it's so sad that there is such a soft attitude that this country's tennis players, particularly men seem to promote to the new guys on the block.

I don't see what all the fuss is - the courts were good enough for Lleyton to make the final last year, and they're just the same for the other 127 players in the men's draw.

Lleyton is not disadvantaged in any way by the court surface, he's just an inferior little prat who's expecting the free ride he needs to get anywhere near winning the Australian Open.

If I can find that as true than I'll take my previous comment back to an extent. I know that it's not just exclusively Hewitt.

But seriously they should just learn to accept it and get on with the task at hand.
I admire players who can play at their best and win regardless of surface. It is one of the great things about Agassi's tennis for example.

You never hear the Fed Express complain! He just gets on with the job and his results are reward for that.

You would think that if you were in the top 20 in the world, you would have some sort of ability to adapt to whatever court was prepared for a match. Every year Hewitt comes out with some sort of complaint. I personally think its his way of highlighting himself. If he loses (like last night) it will be used as an excuse, if he won through to the final the media will jump all over him claiming that he defied the odds. Not the kind of attitude that comes from the number 4 in the world.

He looked really scratchy this summer and underdone. I think he may be on the way out. If he is, Australians should be proud of his efforts, because he got to the top of the sport on guts and determination alone. I think there are a number of players out there who are more skilled the Hewitt, but he had the stregth to dig in and fight as hard as he could. He should be viewed as someone who achieved the best he could out of Tennis - probably more then what his ability allowed.

Federer and his coach have come out today and said the court is too slow, and its dangerous.
Backed up by medicos.
Agassi didn't even turn up this year, he is playing in a tournament in the US.

On the way out? What the hell are you talking about?! The last 2 years, Hewitt has been the 2nd best player behind the Fed-Ex-Freak. 2nd round losses aren't uncommon amoungst top players. Just have a look at how love child Roddick performed at his home tournament last year... It's just the way tennis is. You win some, you lose some.

Hewitt needs to grow up and smell the roses.

He complained at the start of the tournament about the court, but a good player will then put their head down and work their butt off. Complaining again after you lose, is bad sportsmanship. He must learn to accept the loss and move on. He did not play well enough, he was beaten fairly and squarely.

Pat Rafter who was a far more successful player, just got on with the work at hand. Maybe Hewitt's coaches (or is it his parents) should look at how Rafter went about preparing for and playing in tournaments. He would be a good model to look at.

Do you ever wonder why no one has a bad word about players like Rafter and Federer, but alot loathe Hewitt?. Can't be tall poppy syndrome, my question disproves this.

he needs to take a good hard look at himself......seriously he hasnt been playing well recently and its not like he was the only one who had to play on those courts so its not like the courts made him lose!!! but then again he has made enough money by having a kid so whats the point of him training hard to try win another grand slam? and how many times did they need to show bec cartwright on tv during his match.....like seriously we all know they are married and in love or whatever but no need to continuously remind us!

He should but he's the only good Australian player we've got.

Absolute disgrace, sore loser and a mongrel of a bloke (at least on court). This is why so many Aussies hate him.

Anyway I heard an interview with the guy that overlays the courts, and it was rated medium-fast.

Interesting how there were no "COME ON!!"s from Hewitt, he usually does it when he wins a set at the very least, but he knew he was gonna get smashed all the way last night. He says it helps get his competitive juices flowing, well it seems he only does it to put off his opponent when he's on top.

Well in the papers over here he said that he wanted to tone down the c'mons because of the energy being consumed in them and that he needed that energy on his tennis to become a better player.

His worst c'mons notably came out of frustration when he was getting beaten by Vik, definitely not when he was on top. My reports were that his behaviour at the US Open in terms of toning down the fiesty attitude on court were very close to flawless and that he made more c'mons in the first round match than he did altogether in the US Open, and that says something. Maybe he is going to come to the realisation that he needs to tone down his antics if he is going to get better than he did this time last year, which he will need to if he wants to win another grand slam.

Hes in a form slump? yes.
Is he finished? no.

Top players are bound to have form slumps at stages during their careers. They will have the occassional grand slam where they will be knocked out in the first week or even first round. Hewitt will beback making quarter/semi/final finishes in grand slams once he gets his touch back and hs family issues are out of the way. Players do not have everything going their way all the time.

Now Davenport's buggered up her ankle.

This court sucks!

It wasnt the court that buggered up her ankle. If you bothered to take note she rolled her ankle and landed awkardly in her last game purely all her fault so stop using the courts as an excuse. No one else has had a problem with the court other than our spoilt little brat Lleyton but then again who cares what he thinks.

He does have a bag of excuses does Hewitt.
Last week in Sydney Spadea owned him in the first set and he called for the trainer and was complaining about a sudden mystery illness.
Of course there were no signs of it once he got the break in the second set.
Funny that.
