Flag Burning

Can't recall which state it was in, (I think it was the perth march), with all those pesky students which is fine by me, but what really ****ed me off was flag burning. Disrespectful and should be a punishable offence. This country gives morons the right like that to protest in that form and that is their way of paying it back. I'd like to seem the little ****ers try that in a country like suadi arabia.

All he has done is give the act of flag burning increased political legitimacy as a means of protesting, when it is really just 99% attention seeking. I would be willing to lay odds that if (or when?) any such laws go through, the number of flag burnings will actually increase rather than decrease.

They to believe its a great country, but its going off the rails. What better way to show that you are disillusioned with the countries direction than burning its flag.

Sounds fair, and is better than throwing stones.

Australia is great, but there is always room for improvement.

Yeah, give over jurisdiction to the polica/riot squads from China/Indonesia/South Korea/or some South American country. They seem to know how to crush protests. If Aussie cops and riot police did that, imagine the whinging from the civil libaterians and all the 'moral' and ethics' groups .

Let them go, this is a free country still. I'd hate it if fervent nationalism took hold here, I can name another country that tried that in the 30's.

I'm not saying I agree with them burning the flag, but think of it this way.

The patriotism which leads you to be so enraged at the act of flag burning is the exact same thing that pushes people to burn the flag.

It's just that these people feel so betrayed and ashamed by the actions of their country, actions being undertaken in their name that they feel the need to express it in this way.

Do you think that someone apathetic about Australia would burn the flag? No. These people love Australia, but they don't like what Australia is becoming.

You love Australia but you express it in a different way.
