My silly Dad plugged in a heater this morning without telling anyone, anyway it tripped the electricity safety switch - a number of times as we were trying to work out what was causing it.

It sent our pc's crashing a couple of times this morning, and now the monitor on mine has a flicker to it. The sort that makes you squint a bit and give you a headache.

Any ideas on how to fix it?

Danni, you might want to have a look at your monitor refresh rate settings...

right-click on your desktop and select properties. not sure what OS yo uare running.. but the setting should be under "settings".. if not, click on the "advanced" box and click on the monitor tab. you want either "optimal" or as high as you can go without your monitor freaking out (always remember to "test" the setting before saving it). I find that 75Hz is the minimum refresh rate that's comfortable to use, 85Hz even better.

If that doesn't fix it, could be a hardware issue...

If your monitor has a degauss button, press that.

Does it flicker all over the screen or just in one area?
As des said, for some reason your refresh rate may have reset to your default settings...

Try fu@king with the screen resolution and the refresh rate.
These are kind of linked, by that I mean the higher the refresh rate the lower the maximum possible screen resolution and vice versa. Drop your screen res to 800 * 600, and try upping your refresh rate to 85 Hz, or as high as possible.

If this doesn't work take your monitor on to the roof of your house and smash it on the ground, then buy a new one.
