What about last years premiers? Were they not on the bones of their backside until Frank Costa rescued them 10 years ago?

Yeah but they were financially wealthy for quite a few years before they won the cup.

Where the finances really killed us was the number of rookies we took in the first place.

Foley was the only one in his year, and Thursty the only one in his.

Thankfully those days seem to be behind us, may they never return.

I know money is tight but i think we should elevate this guy - Rodan has now been on the long term list for 6 weeks now.

I liked this kid when i saw him at coburg last year. needs to build up but great hands - as i have said here before the player i immediately thought of was Craig Lambert.

More than anything else in this thread, this line stood out for me. It tells me that the financially successful clubs wouldn't even consider the money angle in an elevation of a rookie situation.

Name me a financially struggling club since North Melbourne 10 years ago that has won a premiership?


(Brisbane and Sydney dont count as they were subsidised by the AFL and had Salary Cap concessions)

Hey Dice, thankgod I put that last line in about letting him mature as a player for a year otherwise I would have to boot myself in the head.

But going back 3 years we werent even making profits.

Amazing how much we have turned around since then, $million profits the last two years, and you would suggest we are well on the way to another one, and its actually looking like their is a light at the end of the tunnel at last.

Nothing wrong with your post at the time, but that line about it being an issue of affordability really stood out.
