we need bigger bodys in the forward line, rance looked good down back , we need schulz up forward he breaks some packs open , we need a better set up

Brown, Hughes, Morton
Riewoltd, Schulz, Pettifer when fully fit would be my ideal line up

people bag pettifer around he but lets face it, he is one of our best long and accurate kicks for goal

That post sounds like it's straight out of 2007.
Move on, Schulz and Pettifer are done.

riewoldt should stop taking pointers from nick, his goal kicking is atrocious. morton, too lazy need the ball to come to him. no forward pressure or tackling, naha didnt do nothing exect get caught.

Lol, JS.

I just think Collingwood taking up all the area for Jack, Brown and Morton to push up the to empty flanks absolutely did us tonight and we never adjusted.

It doesn't mean we need a complete revamp.

In fact the only think we need to take out of tonight is something we have all been lamenting for years, tackling.

The worrying thing is we had no size up forward to create a contested marking situation and force genuine crumbs and if you look at our list Schulz and Hughes are the only guys with size other then richo that we could use as the big 2 guys in the forward line, if we went to be competive against the good sides then we need these guys in for size...

If we continually go into games with Morton, Riewoltd and Nathan Brown are marking targets we are in real trouble... Last year it worked for us against the "weaker sides" but if we want to match it with geelong etc we cant go in with that set up

I think you guys just need some good tall forwards. Riewoldt could be a gun as early as next year. Hughes I'm not so sure about but Vickery could be anything.

we need to find a tall marking option at full forward. we have a couple of scratch matches to find one out of vickery, shultz and hughes.

Our forward line wasn't too bad considering I don't think.

Morton can turn it on, Brown the same. Then we have Hughes/Riewoldt/Schulz in which 1 would kick 2 goals a game, Richo and then Deledio for a quarter or so.

I really would like one of either Hughes or Schulz to step up at FF though - whichever one it is. That would drastically help our team.

:)Thanks Darth. Been saying this for weeks ... we need a tall to step up down there. Yes, Jack will be abeauty, but he ain't exactly a tall. Morton and Brown will have days out, but have quiet days as well. But we need someone to make FF their own!! Said this immediately after the Freo win and will say it again. Hughes...Schulz...someone....STAND UP! Richo being down there in the second half was acknowledgement of that!!!!

if we really struggle to find someone to hold down a key post i reckon lids could be quite damaging at full forward.

Totally agree (see the mark of his!?!). Reminded me a bit of Round 22 last year. I really love seeing him play in the midfield and off half back. I think the game is too fast for him to really flick the burners on often enough which is what I'd love to see.

When hes 28+ we can stick him at full forward. ;)

I wish Cleve would take FF by the scruff but I think Schulz provides a better contest. The thing is, he doesn't have to take 10 grabs and kick 5 every week, he simply needs to kick a couple and create a couple more with spillages. Whoever it is, second efforts are crucial aren't they? As is some decent delivery.

Richmond has had an aversion to key forwards stretching back almost three decades. After the likes of Hart, Balme, B.Richardson and Ronaldson only delivered 4 flags in 8 seasons, and Roach kicked a ton in another flag year (with Cloke kicking 6 in the GF), someone decided that was not the way to success. So we got rid of Mark Jackson, Brian Taylor and Cloke and put our faith in Roachie's broken back and half-forward flankers like Bomber James and Michael Pickering.
Recruiting key forwards has not been a priority at ANY POINT in the past 25 years. Richo fell in our laps. Apart from Lounder, who was a ruckman, and Vickery, arguably ditto, we have NOT SPENT ONE FIRST ROUND PICK ON A KEY FORWARD EVER. There were two in the top five ranked players one year, and we had two of the first four picks. Surely?
No.
But midfields win premierships. Oh yeah, of course they do.
We learnt nothing watching Dermie and Dunstall deliver flags for Hawthorn. Now Buddy and Roughy are doing it again. Midfields win premierships my hairy arse.

I like the terrier Nahas, but we need a club rule.

Hit Nahas on the chest or along the ground. No exceptions.
The first clown to bomb it up to Nahas will be dragged. Everytime.

Nahas will get beaten 99.99% of the time in the air.

Can we please work WITH Nahas, instead of AGAINST him.
Then he'll have a career.

:thumbsu:

Lids at FF. Geez what a waste of talent that would be. Lids should play on ball or at HFF. If your team needs Lids in the forward line to score then you are doomed for a bad season.

The forward line seemed to function pretty well in the second half of last year. Confidence is a big part of it surely. Yes we looked dodgy tonight but we looked even worse in our NAB Cup loss to St Kilda last year and we went on to have a competitive season.
