How would this go for a lineup to sort out our forward problems?

F: Farmer Murphy Medhurst
HF: Simmonds Pavlich J Longmuir
C: McManus Dunn Carr
HB: Walker McPharlin/Polak Woods/Gilmore
B: Parker Haddrill Hayden
R: Sandilands Bell Haselby
I: Headland Schammer Polak Cook

Would it be a bad idea to stack either Forward or Half forward with most of our bigger blokes? Dunn in to provide a big body in the center so Pav can move up forward. Rotate Simmonds, Sandilands and Longmuir through the ruck as needed. Murphy to provide the target at full forward.

Murphy hasn't got the body to be a key forward yet. Likely to get smashed a-la Polak in his first year.

Things aren't in that much of a panic. Give the kid (murphy) some time.

I think part of the problem is that our forwards don't play smart footy. The number of times I've seen medhurst bring his man into the contest is just crazy. We need to have the forwards creating space for each other rather than leading to the same place. If simmonds was one on one with his opponent, I think he would do decently, but you can't expect the guy to outmark 2 blokes consistantly because his teammates aren't helping him out. I would like to see alot more dummy leads to isolate the backmen into a one on one contest rather than all of our forwards running toward the same area, creating alot of congestion.

If our tall forwards aren't going to mark it, they at least have to make a contest and bring the ball to ground for farmer, T.lo and medhurst. A number of times the saints took a simple uncontested mark in the backline. When McPharlin went forward there was one instance where he really attacked the ball when going for the mark, he hit the pack hard and though he didn't take the mark, the ball came to ground and we got a goal out of it. As long as our tall forwards give a decent contest, I'm happy.

Even though Murphy might be a bit light for AFL footy, I'd love to see him get a game this season. He might surprise us as I think he would collect the 4th best defender from the opposition. However I think like Dunn, he should get a taste of AFL footy to give him some hunger for the future, not only that but his recent form would warrant a run.

Agree wih that but don't think Murphy is going to be the anser just yet (not suggesting that you are saying that he is).

For a start the Doctors must make sure that Medhurst has taken his asthma preventative medication before the game, he looked like he had a bad attack in the second quarter and had little air.

When Simmonds is leading, get out his way and get front and centre.

When someone has the ball and is running into our forward line, give him various leads, don't stand around acting like a bunch of excited cheerleaders. One lead down the middle, one to a pocket, one at an angle to the flank.

When the ball is bounced in the centre, get in front of your player for the quick kick out of the centre.
