Freo call on fourth debutant - Deboer!

Not sure why I should be happy before he does anything. There is a difference between hope he does well and having faith that he will. The faith vibe is strong on this forum, which I disagree with as I'm a realist.

You seem to think we have not gotten any quality mids and have stuffed up the last draft .....funny you criticise optimism but are happy to worship at the altar of pessimism.

Only in the context of not getting the decent midfielders. For some reason you and others keep on twisting that into "Suban is a dud, Clarke is a dud, Balla is a dud according to memories".

So if any of the current bunch minus Hill turn into decent midfielders then you can lump the shit on me, but it will be coming the other way too.

People who base their lives around faith often see the real world as "pessimistic". So from your view what you say is correct but if you enter the real world you will see it as "Realism".

I don't recall saying you thought any of those guys were duds, however I also don't recall calling De Boer a future top 10 AFL midfielder - which according to you I did?

I just have a slight problem with you writing the draft of us a missed opportunity, 5 rounds into the season.

So if Suban is an excellent half back general, Ballantyne kicks 50 goals,Clarke is a good career ruckman and Hill becomes a talented wing man .....the draft is a failure?

Overall success will be on how they put this team together over the next few years. If the Doggies don't win a flag - their super midfield and no power forward strat should be judged like our 2006 efforts, close but no cigar.

Also I'm not claiming Suban & Ballantyne as pure mids.

Have you seen Suban play though? I have no question over him being capable of rotating through the middle - however look at the Hawks - Hodge can go through the middle but his value is at half back.

I'd rather take best talent than draft for position (which can and it looks like it was done later). By your thinking we would have been Richmond in the Franklin draft and taking Dunn was an inspired move.

Successful people have self belief and envisage the future they want to embrace.

Negative people like to back the easier path, the path where they can blame others for their failures or look for excuses not to be successful.

Perhaps our personalties are shining through? As a successful international cow of mystery - perhaps I could mentor you in how to be the you, you want to be Memories?

In this case is it easier/more important for you to say Freo won't be successful because of drafting and player weight etc .....as only 1 in 16 can win it, and as we are starting from a lower base ....statistically you can drift around here for the next 5 years claiming you were right.

For years I have wanted us to use the draft and take best available talent. You don't rebuild a team in a draft and I see the players we have taken and am confident we are on the path to getting a shot.

Midfields are very, very important - but so are types like a Luke Hodge general, Steve Johnson freak goal kicker, Rioli lock in pressure etc.

I'll judge 2008 drafting in 2010.

As long as it's only a slight problem.

Ok lets say we keep taking the best available and lets assume we did in the last few drafts. What if in 2009 we take picks just like in 2008? Forward pockets, rucks, backmen and one midfielder.

It is an absolutely ridiculous thing to stay "best available talent" when our team has clear deficiencies. Should we just pray that "best available" happens to be a midfielder at our slot? What happens if a ruckman is the best player with our pick 1/2 this year? What a way to recruit a team, you should sign up along with all the other bigfooty pros.

That's fine if it takes you two years, didn't take me two years to come to my conclusions about the lack of midfielders but we are different. Thing is, when I am eventually proven correct you, like others, will simply say it was luck or some other force.
