Just a bit of rewind ... this additional expenditure on coaches looks like it was for Harvey and Shaw and an extra $300k for "sports science" equipment".

I got the $300k figure from a Connolly radio interview where he said Tarbox had suggested spending $300k, and now they had players fitter than they'd ever been. How this pans out will be anyone's guess. But it can't be a bad start.

As to Harvey and Shaw, what are the chances of the WAFL suggesting reviewing our figures, and saying we should send them home and get Waterman and Eastaugh back? Unlikely I'd suggest.

Like I said on the previous page, the WAFC seems to want us to spend $1 and make $1.05. Sure, be above the average, return a profit, make the 8, but don't do too well (and don't repeat 2001!)

Schwabby and Hart seem to be the sort of guys who'll spend that $1 from the WAFC, borrow another $1 from the banks, gear it up to $4, chip in a $1 or 2 themselves, pass the hat around and get another $3 and then round it off the $10... and promising everyone that they will pay back $20 next year.

Risky stuff, maybe, but anyone who's been around footy knows that success brings in the dough and you need to spend up to get success. The past 11 seasons are behind us. Who we've had coaching, playing, sponsoring is irrelevant. Lets do the best with what we have, and getting Harvey and Shaw is part of that... and a bit of decent form so far, some turmoil elsewhere (Wiggles and Glory) has seen the sponsors jump on board.

I'm more leaning to the sponsors saying...' What the f. is going on at Freo ? They dont win much, the papers rip them at every opportunity, respected (sic) commentators and sports writers bag them, their owners the WAFC tip the bucket on them and after all that they keep increasing membership and their supporter base.' .... any smart sponsor would be onto Fremantle just in case they start winning.

Not much of a gamble really. Considering even if we do nothing we will probably increase membership and profit
