I just wanted to say that I've been so impressed with the way Brisbane have gone about their footy this year.
People talk about how Freo have been unlucky, the Lions have been simply ravaged by injury. To lose structural keys like Merrett and Jono Brown for long stints just leaves me bewildered at how the kids just haven't thrown in the towel.
But the impressive thing about it all is that the kids have stood up. Redden has had a real break-out year, very composed player who has got great agility and game awareness; Rockliff just keeps on rolling on from last year, has improved and stepped up, for me he's what Jed Adcock should have become and could well be one of your next leaders; Banfield has great talent, still has a bit of developing to go and at times can drop his head a bit but I know, personally, that Malthouse ranks him as one of the yong up-and-comers that he would like to have; Leuenberger has had a really underrated year and is quietly developing into one of the elite ruckman, not far behind Goldstein IMO; and Karnezis is a real beauty, don't worry about Darling, this kid is a real footballer, and when he builds a tank and puts some strength into that frame of his we could see the birth of a really good midfielder.
If Polec can recover from his injury and get a good pre-season under his belt, well... I think you'll have a lot to get excited about for years to come.
More importantly, I think in such adverse conditions (the Fev, Golden Staph, coaching uncertainty, unsettled board etc.) Brisbane have shown that they really have a backbone to them, an underlying hardness that will hold them in good stead for the future and, for your sake, deliver the ultimate success that you all hope will return to the Gabba.
Anyway, it does seem a little egotistical by creating a thread, but I felt it was important to acknowledge what the footy club has been able to achieve, albeit not reflected on the scoreboard. Hopefully, you'll get your just desserts in the future.
