Dear Aph (real name withheld)
I hope you and your families are safe and well as we continue to work through and overcome the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This season we may have been forced apart, however our football club continues to grow closer and it is the unwavering support of you – our members – that is keeping us all together.
Having played our first five games of the 2020 season in front of empty stadiums, it was fantastic to finally see navy blue back in the stands for our last two games. To see our members and supporters turn out in numbers no matter where we play proves just how big and passionate our supporter base is.
Our players and coaches are feeding off the energy and enthusiasm that is being provided by our members and it’s great to see this being reflected in our improved on-field performance.
The football club would also like to express our gratitude to our corporate partners who have continued to stand with us during incredibly difficult times. It is during the toughest times that the strongest partnerships are forged and I am sure I speak on behalf of all our 67,000 members when I say thank you to all of our partners.
Special thanks goes to our co-major partner Hyundai, with this Saturday against North Melbourne being our second Back our ‘Baggers game for the year, where we give our members the opportunity to have their name on the back of one of our player guernseys. It’s our way of saying thanks to each and every one of you for putting this club on your back and carrying us through 2020.
Following this Saturday’s game, our players and coaches will fly to Western Australia, where they will spend the next three weeks playing games against Hawthorn, West Coast and Fremantle. We take on the Hawks next Thursday at 5:40pm (AEST) before having a bye in Round 10.
We will then have back-to-back games against the Eagles (Sunday 9 August) and Dockers (Saturday 15 August) that will be shown live on both Channel Seven and Fox Footy. Knowing how much support we have in WA, it will be fantastic to see the Navy Blue faithful in full voice at Optus Stadium.
To shift our entire football operations to another state for a third time this year presents another significant challenge but being agile, flexible and open-minded is what this season requires and that is exactly the approach we are taking.
I wanted to take the opportunity to acknowledge our players, coaches and our entire team of football staff led by Brad Lloyd. In an environment that changes by the day, we have adapted to every situation that has been thrown at us and have done our members proud with strong performances both on and off the field.
Whilst we aren’t yet clear what the final six rounds of the season will hold for our club, we expect to be returning to Queensland to complete the season after our three games in Perth.
As a club we will continue to provide you with as much member-exclusive and online content as we can, so you remain connected to your club.
In closing, I just want to reinforce how grateful the Carlton Football Club is to have your support as a member. You are the reason we exist and our players can’t wait to see the stands full of Carlton members again.
Please stay safe during this time. We are particularly thinking of our Victorian-based members, and while these times may be uncertain, if you are needing to feel a connection, know that you belong to the Carlton faithful who values your support – all of us are in this together.
Take care and keep cheering on the Blues from wherever you are watching.
Oh, and PS: Give Thylacine60 a break. He means well and locking him out of those threads does nobody any good. Surely you can see his intentions are honorable, ffs?
