I was planning on buying a 50 inch Full Hd tv but when I went out to buy I ended up just getting a Pioneer 50 inch HD plasma. I here its a good brand plus I like the 5 year warranty.

Am wondering however if I will regret it. To be honest I can't tell the difference between full hd and hd but maybe I just haven't researched enough.

Was it a mistake to not buy full hd? There was a panasonic full hd for $200 more. I think my picture quality is awesome, I can't imagine it being much better.

Personally I can't see a difference. I have a 1080i source and a 1080p source and cannot see it. Other people will claim that the there is a huge difference, but whatever. I think it is better you saved $200.

Pioneer is the best there is.

Its has quality written all over it. Its Plasmas are that good in picture quality that you place any FHD LCD or Plasma next to it and it will still stand out above the others in picture quality.

For 40" or 42" you could go either way and probably won't notice any difference between HD and full HD.

The benefit with the full HD TV is that its the newer model and probably comes with additional features such as more HDMI inputs and 1080p/24fps playback for blu-ray movies, which looks awesome.

For a 50" TV i'd definitely go full HD. On the bigger screen you can pick up the difference between 1080i and 1080p, whereas on a 42" its much more difficult. Having said all that, you would only notice the difference sitting them side by side. In your living room either will look great.

the research I did lead me to the conclusion that the panasonics were the best plasmas at the moment... even better than the pioneers...

we've got a 50 inch panasonic plasma and i'm really happy with it... if you're going all out with dvd recorder and surround sound, you can get the viera link happening with the panasonic products, works quite well... can do most things with only 1 of the panasonic remotes...

and any questions you have on this topic can best be answered here... http://www.dtvforum.info/

nope.
the new pioneer kuro's are the best plasma on the market. actually they're the best TV's on the market.

There hasn't been a 1080p broadcast anywhere in the world. Don't know what you guys are talking about.

All your seeing is 1080i.

The only time you can get 1080p is on your PC.

certain xbox 360 and PS3 games are native 1080p, PC games and of course blu-ray and HD DVDs movies are in 1080p

Forgive me, should've went further as to say that what we see on 10HD is 1080i

Interesting, I didnt realise that. I guess it doesnt matter that I didnt get full hd as I don't watch a lot of DVDs and I'm not a gamer. I got my tv for general tv viewing only.

isn't it 720p/1080i & 1080p?

If you can buy 1080p, not that it matters with Australian FTA

Or on video games. Or on Blu-Ray.

1080p has smoother movement than 1080i

In that case you probably did the right thing. If you're not watching material from a full HD source you wouldn't notice any difference. Its only when you start watching things in native 1080p (next gen console games, blu ray) that you start seeing the worth of full hd.

And yeah, the other guys are right. Pioneer are the definite king of plasmas. Nothing wrong with the panasonics tho

get a blu ray and watch to on 1080p and tell me there is not a difference.

I watch 1080p bluray movies and they look awesome. Craps all over 1080i and below.

Pioneer's 768p Kuro will produce a better image than any other tv out there, except for their own 1080p models - and they aren't cheap. Resolution isn't the be all and end all of great picture quality.

A 70inch SONY SXRD craps on them all I'm sorry.
If you have the room, and aren't concerned about the w*nkfactor of having a 'slim' TV then the SXRD rear-pro is the ducks nuts! No problems that you would associate with a plasma or LCD to be concerned about, all the while getting hugh bang-for-bucks in a VERY large screen. Don't think of the old rear-pros of the past, the picture is BRILLIANT!!

Too bad they don't make them anymore! :D
