I understand the rules regarding posting articles/stories etc. I'm oping the mods make an allowances for this instance due to all information being relevant and not the ownership of anyones.

Once again a worse deal for the UK than many other countries without a significant fan-base. :(

We have three or four digital platforms, either via satellite or 'cable'. But the Premier Sports outfit are only available on the Sky platform. A shame for likes of me who aren't prepared to do business with Murdoch (and plenty here feel the same). So at best I'll be reliant on, er, unorthodox methods to see the games. I shouldn't have known the good arrangement of the last few years was too good to last.

No, no more than happy for this to be posted in full as I consider it more a reference than an article.

Seems like nothing much has really changed in the UK, but with France going with beIN for just two games is really surprising

It seems that deals have mainly been done with Premier Sports and their Setanta Sports off shoots in Asia and Africa. Can't believe that Sky Sports or BT Sports weren't at all interested

Can you explain to those of us who do not know how premier sports works and functions?

Is there anything stating this or is this an assumption?

Perhaps they weren't willing to lay out as much cash for it as premier sports.

If past deals are anything to go by then SkyUK probably just wanted the Finals/SoO and one or two games a week. Premier will show every game and are already doing lots of promo work, check out http://www.premiersports.tv and their ad

Slightly back on topic the NRL have updated the list so it's easier to understand what's on tv/online and have changed the name of the livestream channel to http://new.livestream.com/NRL

Can you explain to those of us who do not know how premier sports works and functions?

It's a stand alone channel on the Sky platform, which you pay extra each month for. Those who use Freeview, TopUpTV, Virgin Media or BT can't access the channel. How Premier Sports come about was their owners started Setanta Sports and about 5 years ago got the Rights to the Premier League, but were never able to cover the costs and in the end the channel in the UK went bankrupt. ESPN UK was started to pick over the better rights they had plus attempt to break into the UK market against Sky Sports.

The former owners of Setanta Sports UK (because the likes of Setanta Sports Asia, Australia and Ireland stayed afloat) started Premier Sports to mainly cover the GAA and give sports like the NRL a home when they weren't picked up by either Sky Sports or ESPN. 10 months or so ago BT Sports successfully bid for the Premier League Rights that ESPN had plus one package of Sky Sports and then picked up all of the England Rugby Union rights. To top that off only last week BT Sport brought ESPN UK (mainly for content). So Premier Sports is a small sports channel on just one platform in the UK that gives a home to sports that don't find a home on Sky Sports or ESPN (and now BT Sports).

Is there anything stating this or is this an assumption?

Perhaps they weren't willing to lay out as much cash for it as premier sports.

I'm surprised thats all. I doubt it was a cash matter as either Sky Sports and BT Sports could ramp bidding up if they wanted to. Just they most likely didn't put in a bid to match the commitment to the NRL like Premier Sports did. This isn't about money for the NRL, BUT commitment. That would be a bigger factor

robbieando has explained that very well. :)

Bottom line: if you want to watch the NRL legally in the UK, you need a Sky satellite dish.

SkyTV NZ have signed a short term deal for round 1 until the two parties can agree on a deal. Apparently SKY NZ wants to roll over the $14 million per season deal for a further 5 years while the NRL wants $25 million per season. The league is a corner stone product for Sky so we'll see a long term deal soon for sure.
