I think it's horses for courses, it really depends on who we are playing.

Frost - Brown - Ramsay

Sinclair - Reid - Langdon

Bench: Williams

Sinclair > Frost, Langdon
Frost and Sinclair are vastly different players, I don't think you can make an arbitrary comparison like that.

Personally I prefer Langdon for his marking and superior kicking, but again Sinclair is a small defender and Langdon is medium. I guess it all does depend on the size of our oppositions forward line.

We seem to be playing with a fairly consistent +1 in defense, Pendles and Reid freed up in the Tigas game, so for me it looks like this.

Williams - Brown - Langdon
Reid
Ramsay - Frost - Sinclair

Marsh and Maynard got some work to do to squeeze any of that 7 out. Prefer Oxley up on a wing.

The 3 locks in the backline for mine are Reid, Brown and Williams.

Reid is our best user by foot coming out the backline and a great intercept marker.
Brown is our full back, IMO best option to play on the big full forwards.
Williams when in form is our number 1 small defender, adds grunt and is usually pretty reliable.

Then there is a big group of other players that you could slot in there depending on opponent, form etc

At the moment my preferred back 6 is:

B - Ramsay Brown Goldsack/Frost/Marsh/Langdon (one of these depending on opponent and form)
HB - Williams Reid Sinclair

Jon Marsh ~ Nathan Brown ~ Marley Williams
Jackson Ramsay ~ Ben Reid ~ Brayden Maynard

I/C: Ben Sinclair

Form pending, I like Maynard's potential hopefully he has consistent VFL form and earns selection and the sooner Marsh come's in for Frost the better. The backline at full strength would have Pendlebury over Maynard but I'm hoping he gets back to his best midfield form. Maybe Marley moves to the middle Ramsay to the back pocket and someone like a Varcoe, Crisp or Aish goes on the other flank.

HAHHAA. Last year everyone was asking for Goldsack to be dropped from the backline now suddenly everyone wants him back in. FFS.

Fit, in form, and built cohesion, I like this back 6:

Marsh, Brown, Langdon
Williams, Reid, Ramsay

Frost is a spud. Sinclair is a spud. Maynard has a lot of work to do.

so the good sides backlines don't tackle? never noticed that.....

Don't put words in my mouth, the best defence has players that can do more than just tackle. If we want a defender down there purely for tackling then it should be Varcoe, as he offers more in other areas of the game.

Not everyone. There's a few who didn't name him.

Ramsey/Smith Keefe Marsh
Scharenburg Reid Williams / Pendlebury

Roll on 2017!
