Fulton vs Brohman

Heard some drama today about the 2UE continuous call team, where Les Boyd's wife called in and spoke to Darryl Brohman. Didn't hear what was said there but then Bobby Fulton calls in and abuses Brohman calling him a coward for seeking legal action against Boyd back when he broke his jaw in Origin.

Concensus on Qld radio (naturally) today was that Fulton was a bully as a selector, coach and ARL board member and that he was out of line.

Did anyone else hear this and what is the general vibe as to how it went down?

It raises an interesting point.

I, for one believe that it was an absolute cowardly shot on Brohman. So what if Boyd didn't like Broham, that was cheap and sickening elbow that was designed to cause serious damage to him. I like Boyd and dislike Broham but I think it was an absolute coward act.

In saying that, do I support legal action. Tough decision, but yes I do in this situation. Boyd purposely elbowed Broham with no intention of making the tackle. As a result Broham lost personal income and was struck with large medical costs. A cheap shot like that should come straight out of the perpetrators pocket.

I do not support legal action in any other case that I have seen but that was disgusting.

The clubs should be insured against civil suits like this. Any number of reckless tackles have the potential to go to court and cripple someone financially. Jarred McCracken's case springs to mind, any spear tackle could too. Very touchy ground.

FWIW i think Bozo has a point, when blokes like Brohman and Hill take the player or the ARL to court it's a dog act, but then so is the elbow to the head. Hard to say which is worse.

Keeping in mind when the incident happened, there were no professional football players they all had Mon-Friday jobs to pay the bills, put food on the table, no injury insurance for lost wages etc.
The cheap shot from Boyd was as a disgusting act as you would ever see on a Rugby League field, virtually ending the career of Brohman.
He still had to have money to live on, and wasn't getting it from Rugby League or from work when he was injured, had every right to take the matter to court.
For Bob Fulton to suggest he was a "coward" for doing this is nothing short of disgraceful especially coming from a "Immortal" of the game.
Apparently last Friday both Brohman and Fulton talked for the first time since the incident, and all is okay now.

When he actually played Bobby Fulton was a cheat, a coward, a "cheap shot "merchant and a loudmouth whinger who cried like a baby when his team lost a grand final ! For him to say anything about anyone else is "the pot calling the kettle black" at its worst !

Bob Fulton was the best player I have ever seen play the game and I can't agree with your statement about him being a cheat , coward etc . However as a coach and a bloke he has done the game no favours , he has been a cynical manipulator who shows very little class , he looks after himself and his own (getting his reserve grade playing son a big contract in the super league war) and his backing of Boyd by belittling Brohman is typical .

I can't remember if Fulton coached\influenced Boyd at Manly but Boyd's best football was at Wests and I cannot remember Boyd standing toe to toe with too many of the hard men of rugby league - Dropping knees into someone , elbowing someone and eye gouging someone that was more Les's legacy .

Every one of my comments about Fulton was absolutely true ! I watched him do all of these things during his career. His disgraceful attempts to defend Boyd's thuggery when he was coach of Manly are just another example of his lack of sportsmanship. Could he play the game ? Hell yes ! He was a brilliant attacking player but he was also a poor defender, stood offside much of the time in defence, argued with referees and whined constantly in his newspaper column throughout his career.
