AFL Club
Carlton
Is there is point in Carlton getting anyone players from other clubs in this years drafts? Seriously do we go purely with kids? Or do we go half-half? Hopefully we get plenty of picks and use them on kids but I will say that if we delist/trade 10-12 player which will probably happen then Im not convinced that just kids and only kids will be a good thing. We dont want them being smashed and bashed next year and the year after. Sure, we want to give them exposure ahead of recycled players and older players but there is a difference between having them battered and bruised every week, getting injuries, etc. and giving them calculated exposure. Its a fine line. At least 8 kids are what we need and maybe 2 or 3 players from other clubs are needed to top up? I think depth is the key, we need to get the right mix as it's critical to our kids development in 2006 and beyond. Such players may include M.Bolton, Saddington, Bode, Fosdike, Brooks, Hahn, Armstrong, Baird, etc. to add depth. Having said this we dont want more Bowyers, Clarkes, Morrells, Bannisters, etc!

i don't think we will have 12 delistings or trades

there will be max of 8-9 players currently on the list that will not be there in 2006

6 of those will be kids from the draft
1 will be recycled from PSD
and
remaining 2-3 will be from trades (we will be a lot more diligint in which recycled players we select as we have a bit more barganing power with a full compliment of draft picks)

as we are back in the draft without any penalties we are not forced to pick up recycled players
IMO there sould be a good mix of 1-3 recycled players and the remining (min 5) kids

Who do you think will be delisted/traded. Youve mentioned 10 inclusions to the list in 2006. I said 10 will be gone. I think you're also forgetting our rookies that will be promoted. I think they want at least 6-8 kids in the draft, a PSD pick and maybe 2 rookies promoted. In order to do this players have to leave, hence 10-12.

i think 8 inclusions, depending on trades and players available in NATdraft & PSD draft this may rise to 9-10

the following 6 are more than likely gone, if we get anything in return for them it will be a bonus

pleming- (rookie) delisted
clarke- delisted
bowyer- delisted
prendergast- trade-delisted
bannister- delisted
norman- trade-delisted

the following 4 are players likely to be put up for trade first,
80% of any list is tradeable if the right deal comes along

houlihan- trade
davies- trade- delisted
wiggins- delisted-trade
sporn- trade-delisted

of our rookies i think only 1 will be promoted (smith) as all are all eligible for another year on the rookie list, pleming to be delisted so that makes 2 spots available on the rookie list

Digby and Brett Johnson aren't safe either.
good point, we also don't know exactly who is out of contract, which will make a difference

a lot is going to depend on the quality of the draft (ie midfielders, talls, ruckmen)
if we can draft a good crop of midfielders them it will more than likely we will let a couple of midfielders go
we still lack talls so if we don't draft talls then digby might be lept on.
