Take out Black and Drummond and the Lions would have lost tonight .

Ps only a moron would consider us a top 4 side at this stage or our development.

I never said that I thought we were a top 4 side, others have said it, someone posted it in this thread (see post # 292 from brazilblue). I don't think that at all, in fact I think we'll stuggle to make the 8 particularly if we don't improve our foot skills

Care to enlighten us on that game plan?

Every result we get is because of pure effort. Our players try their guts out week in and week out. But our gameplan is so unpolished compared to the other competant teams.

We seem to run around like Browns Cows with little idea what each other is attempting to do.

If i see Bret Thornton crawl out of defense once more i will scream. Why is he still allowed to hold up play EVERY time he gets it?

We excel in effort but we continually let the ball end up in the wrong hands of people who can't dispose of it well.

The Coach must address this.

God i hope Greg Swan is bombarding Paul Roos with offers.

That would be the game plan that saw us have more inside fifties, more clearances, more contested ball and just about more of everything else except goals in the first half (including turnovers, but only by a little bit, I think it was 28 - 24 at half time).

In the third quarter we finally started to convert. If that conversion happens in the the first 2 quarters (and I don't mean 11.3 - 8.6 would have been enough) and is backed up by the third quarter we had, then the game is over by 3/4 time, or at least takes a herculean effort for them to get back.

16.11 to 12.16 tells about the whole story of the night. At least 4 of the chances we missed were very gettable.

I changed my tip from Carlton by 11, to Brisbane by 11 as soon as I heard Bower was out. That was really the other thing (apart from straighter kicking) that might have helped us win tonight.

All in all, it was an impressive performance by the boys and I have now watched 2 games where I've ended up disappointed in very few of the players ... good signs.

Paul Roos ... pffft ... I can honestly say I'll stop watching Carlton games if they start playing the sort of football that he coaches teams into ... I couldn't give a shit about winning if it means watching 2 hours of rugby scrums!

Read my post above yours - the 3rd quarter.

If the players go into their shells and chip around by foot looking for the easy option, they're simply not following it.

Azul, the problems you rightly identify are NOT being addressed though.

We are constantly the slowest team out of our own defense. They continually crawl their way out of defense and it immediately puts all our players upfield under pressure.

We get very little done easily at Carlton.

And the ball is constantly left to kick by people who CAN'T kick with any penetration.

Thornton constantly kicks slowly and sideways out of defense.

Carazzo constantly kicks the ball. He shouldn't. Are Clint Jones or Daniel Cross allowed to kick it for their teams?

Look at everyone find a way to bag Walker who executed perfect kicks on the run and under pressure.

Imagine if he could kick.

Where's incog43?

That biased sniper Matthews said Leuenberger reached over the back, but it was Walker going back with the flight and spoiling the giant ruckman who should have marked it one out.

People only see what they want to see.

Or don't think.

People also forget that Walker has had almost 24 months out of the game.

If we can be so patient with others why not him?

I agree Terry but you suggested we didn't have a gameplan. It's there all right but it will require some time and patience for all the players to cotton on. :( In the meantime we'll just have to endure the ring-a-rosy football, turnovers and constant refrains about skills.

The return of Judd will help. His superhuman pack-busting efforts seem to inspire others to back themselves instead of chipping the ball in circles.

but isnt he supposed to be the best 3rd defender in the league ? the amount of time he spends sliding on his knees behind his opponent marking the ball or slapping his fist into his other hand annoys me.
