Need your honst opinion guys on who u think will play more in the ruck this year and why?

your thoughts?

Cox.

Because Gardiner simply can't afford to get injured again.

Expect the ruck roles to look like this:

Gardiner will be permenant CHF this year with a bit of bench time if tired. He's will do most of the ruck work in the F50 (throws ins, ball ups).

Cox will spend most of the game in the ruck (around 3/4), and the rest of the time on the bench to rest up. He will spend very little time resting up forward and he's not much chop in the F50 and his kicking at goal is rank.

Seaby will spend the rest of the game in the ruck (probably 1/4), and probably about half of the remaining 3/4's in the F50 as a third tall forward option around McDougall and Gardiner. Seaby won't do much rucking in the F50 unless Gardiner is off the ground at the same time.

Cox

Gardiner hasn't played footy for nearly a year and we can't afford him to get injured again. There's no need for the club to rush him back into the ruck when we have two other quality ruckman (Cox and Seaby) who are more than capable of doing the job. Gardiner will play the majority of the year up forward and may do the rucking in the forward 50 but i don't think he will be taking many of the centre bounces.

Will west coast try and play gards, cox and seaby in the same team ?

Could be a real strength for us this year...

Yep should be good.

I think the way to go is if Gardiner does alright at CHF, Cox remains the first choice ruckman, but with a somewhat lighter load.

If Gardiner is playing up forward, he'll be free to take the bouncedowns and throwins in the forward half. They have significantly less risk than the centre contests, and also significantly greater rewards- if Gardiner only gets to win 5 ruck contests comprehensively a game, I'd rather have those within a kick of goal, with the likes of Judd, Matera and Sampi cruising past.

That would create some mismatches for the opposition- often when a tall forward takes a ruck contest, the tallest defender will go up against him- Gardiner would absolutely destroy most defenders if it comes to a ruck contest, so that leaves the opposition forced to make their ruckman work harder and get to more contests, whilst Cox concentrates on using everything in the tank around the other parts of the ground.
