I know this was mentioned in other threads and I also realise that we are all basically of the same mind "who cares what Garry thinks" but when he posted his top 10 overpaid player list on Friday he named Nic Naitanui saying "purely on output, $800,000 a year is way over the odds for the West Coast highlight reel". It gets to a point when you feel like a journalist starts to have a specific vendetta against a player. Since his average game against Fremantle Nic has been building each week and his last three games have been quality. Obviously this article was posted prior to Naitanui's game yesterday but I am glad that Naitanui may make Lyon eat his words most weeks for the second half of this season. I hope he gets a "please explain" from Caroline Wilson on Footy Classified tomorrow.

Don't we already have a thread complaining about Lyon?

FFS, it's getting to the point where we need a sub-board just for all the whinging and moaning about media figures. Who cares?

If you don't care, then don't post.

Funny.
When Garry Lyon was playing he was one of my favourite players.
Off field he was articulate and intelligent and someone I always listened to.
Recently , either this whole media thing has gone to his head or he has been told to be more controversial.
Either way it's a sell out and we are all losers including him as a person of integrity.

Anwser me this , How much does Garry Lyon get paid and what does he give back in his position of influence ?
No doubt Nic Nat earns a pretty penny , but this kid does more for the good of the human race than that dickh*** will do in 100 lifetimes.
The good guy always triumphs over the negative dicks in the end.

Like him on triple M but learnt to disregard anything he says about us, and especially NN
I like him on Triple M too.

I don't take much that any of those blokes say seriously - even if they want us to. You can't have it both ways when they spend most of the time taking the piss (which is why their coverage works).

A. Lyon is a moral pip squeak. accepted tanking openly on TV, etc, would not work for the club just ' offer advice' etc
B. Lyon is a media grub just paid to write drivel and ceate headlines
C. In Nic is paid $800k that is the lowest cost midfield in the AFL.
D. Nic gets his hands dirty more an 5 min that lovely Jack (who is an ok player) does in a full game - and Lyon has taken the Watt line from day one - part of the Melbourne old school culture

I don't take into account anything Garry says about NN, love listening to the boys on Triple M, him and Carey crushed him last night, Barrett stood up for him at least saying he's coming back from groin surgery but they kept trotting out 'then don't play then' line, yawn. I just think he's still bitter about trying to justify picking Watts over him and he needs any little reason to pot him.

Sure stuck it up them yesterday with his performance

In the article he says on exposed form this year he is not worth $800000 ! I would have to agree ! Before yesterday he had been struggling and not worth that type of coin on form alone . He also says that by the end of his contract he may be a bargin . He was far more scathing on other players in that article . We know that nic nat is not on that money now but by seasons end if his form had not turned around we would have had a thread on this subject .
BTW does his $800 000 include his ambassadorial role money or is that on top ?

Sure, but he's not being paid that now so the whole premise is stupid. He isn't being overpaid. If he struggles next year on his alleged $800,000 then he may have a point.

The silly thing for Lyon is that it was quite clear Naitanui was improving immensely each game.
So no, his game yesterday does not change Lyon's summation before the match took place (right or wrong). But, on exposed form, most of us WC bigfooty posters were not surprised to see him have a BOG game.
By this logic I am prepared to give him leniency for dissing Scully on Friday only for Scully to play a fantastic game against Brisbane.

i dont listen to what Lying says and the same for Brad im a legend in my own mind Hardy both flogs of the highest order

Lyon wasn't too bad in the media for a while but over the last four years or so he has gone downhill. like brereton in that regard.

too much time in the media kills a lot of pundits.

He's not a journalist. Real journalists like Caro and Sheahan and Barrett have a code of ethics that they at least try to embrace. But a lot of blokes like Lyon carry on as if their high profile media status gives them the right to avoid having to conform to any notions of journalistic integrity. Even Eddie used to be a sports reporter. At least Eddie has the integrity to admit his own personal biases. Lyon is a Melbourne man. "No I'm not". "Yes I am". "No I'm not".
