I have no problem last season with Joel Bowden playing on the monster, Rocca-type CHF's. He will cope a few goals but is creative and runs off and adds abit for us.

However - I would have assumed Polak job was to do that CHB role and allow Joel to be realsed to a flank where he wouldn't have the burden of marking the other sides most important player who is far bigger and stronger.

My question is this -> if you are going to make J Bowden do this role - why the **** would you select Gaspar in the 22, to play of a Medhurst type player?

Gaspar is a full back, and not a very good one. He should be played on the key forward or not be in the side. Why the hell is he playing on Medhurst/Leon Davis types? Both who killed him and made him look laughable.

Gaspar needs to play on Rocca types, or, perferably not be in the side.

Playing him on small/quick/skilled forward pocket types is bloody horrible coaching. More so when u have an undersized Joel playing on Rocca.

Drop Gaspar for White/Meyer/JON/Hartigan type. We have no shortage of small defending/running types who could actully do this role.

Don't tell me Gaspar has played well in the first 2 games. Round 1 he played against the most out of form player in the league. Round 2 he played on Barry, who injuryed his knee 3 times.

If we are going to play J Bowden as a key defender and have Polak also in the role, plus McGaune and Moore whom are both 190cm+, I assume we are playing Gaspar as a rebounding defender... great.

:thumbsd:

Agree completely. We have 3 blokes capable of playing on the big forwards. But 2 of those guys are also capable of playing other roles if required. If we pick Gaspar to play, then he must be used on those guys, otherwise there's no point having him in the side, especially given his disposal.

Will there be an appropriate matchup for him against the Dogs? Remains to be seen, but if there isn't, then don't pick him. We have other pressing needs.

It was crazy to have McGuane on Darcy. Gas was much better on him when switched. Strange by Terry....

I think the critisism of Gas has been ill directed, apart from his time on Medhurst he has done more than whats required of him..which is stopping goals...When a young defender emerges , I'll be the first to suggest Gas hands over the batton, At the minute, I cant see it...and Polak wouldnt have been able to play on Fev, Hall and co...we would have been hammered

With so much new and young blood in the side, it seems Wallace is keen to experiment. We know Gaspar's capabilities...he can always be shifted to a lockdown role if needed.

What we do need to find out, is whether or not McGuane is tall enough, fast enough and skilled enough to play as a short KP defender (ala Bowden) or a third tall. There's no flanker or pocket role available for him, so we need to find out if he can play where he's most likely to be needed.

Signs weren't terribly encouraging on Fri night...will get beaten in the air by genuine height, isn't overly blessed with skills, and wasn't taking any ground on the lead off a ruckman 4 games back from 2 years worth of knee reco's.

Still learning and has potential as a depth player, but IMO, it's hard to see much in the way of natural advantages that would put him in the best 22 - now or in years to come.

Im with you, gas and the backline hasnt done too badly, the problem is turnovers up field when moving into attack that has done the damage and have caught them out.

Couldnt believe one of Gaspars clearing kicks to a 3 one in West Coasts favour. He did do an awesome smother though in the 3rd? quarter about 30 out from goal.

I'm all for Gas getting the arse, but who else could have played on Lynch with any degree of effectiveness? Polak maybe but I think that would be a stretch. For now Gaspar has to stay, despite his steady stream of clangers. Somehow I don't think Geelong is a game that Gaspar should be dropped for.

That was about his only contribution. He got torn a new one by lynch.

Disagree. For all their forward entries, Lynch didn't get that much of it and quite a few of his touches were in positions opposition teams would be happy to see him getting them in. 10 possessions, 6 marks, not really getting torn a new one was it?

We'll definitely need Gaspar this week. Cats will play Mooney, NAblett and Hawkins up forward so Polak, Gas and McGuane will all have a matchup.

That's a good match up for those three, McGuane on Ablett, Polak on Mooney and Gas on Hawkins.

Agreed. Wouldn't be completely surprised if Moore is in the side as well just in case one of those matchups doesn't work and we want to reshuffle. He'd be a perfect match on NAblett. Guess it depends on how keen we are to keep Bowden free in defence.

After last weeks efforts, I'd expect to see Richo drifting back across half back at key times to block things up and help out our talls.

they got bowden to drift into the hole so its not the matchup that count too much. I dont think moore is ready yet or really needed and need more time with coburg.

At least bloody Gaspar played on Lynch this week.

Going by the first 4 games I half expected him to line up on Wirra.
