Max Rooke had Calves blood injected into his hamstring to improve recovery.

Pretty sure Max didn't get any wacky treatment. He was sent to the awesomely-named Dr Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfarth in Germany. Now, Hans has experimented with things like calf's blood on other athletes, but the treatment Max got was much more standard.

Sounds like the myth is growing well if it's got to gene therapy.
