Look boys, I am really looking forward to Free Agency and was hoping to start up a thread with realistic free agency rumors, possible suggestions or unconfirmed signings. I don't have any myself but for everyone's sake we can discuss rumors. Enjoy!

Yea mate. U have Kurt Tippett on ur poll but Tippett isn't a free agent. He is just being talked about for trade week :)

The free agency talk has been pretty quiet so far except for Goddard... even the GWS uncontracted player talk has been very cold as well.... after round 23 maybe we will hear a few more murmours and rumours about it all :)

Agreed, there has been nothing on the GWS signing front and little on the free agent front but we are hearing about Goddard and Cloke. They both appear on the move. Chris Knights also appears on the outer and there are others as well. Most of the talk is about trades. Not sure free agency is a good thing though. Now trade week is 3 weeks and it is losing excitement. And now it's going to be more about money (Goddard, Cloke etc) then player loyalty. Particularly Cloke. The premiership window is open, he is 25-26, he is at a big club, he has a great midfield delivering it too him and he is a premiership player. At least Goddard has not won a premiership and is hoping to heading into his twilight of his career. He wont win a flag at St Kilda

Then just don't worry about Kurt Tippett

list needs to be updated on the website as Hodge, Mitchell and Sewell have all re-signed with the Hawks.

Yea, as they resign they lose their free agent status pup!

The list on the website isn't updated, which was what he was referring to:

HAWTHORN
Free agents: Chance Bateman, Luke Hodge, Sam Mitchell, Thomas Murphy, Michael Osborne, Clinton Young (unrestricted), Brad Sewell (restricted).

Lions' list still lists Adcock as well.

Don't worry about the whole poll then

Haha your intentions were good mate. :D

Exactly what he said folks, general free agency talk it is.

Not much on the free agency front to discuss. But don't worry, as we get closer to the start of the free agency period it will heat up

Is GWS allowed to claim a free agent from a club that it hasn't signed an uncontracted player, or could it sign an uncontracted player and a free agent from the same club this season ?

The assumption is yes and yes but we won't know for certain unless it happens, and it probably won't.

Knights and Chaplin to Richmond seem assured
Russell likely and Cloke a chance.

If you are linking all 4 to Richmond your being very optimistic I would have thought.

Not a limit is there?
Chaplin and Knights look to be set.
Russell was, at least a few months ago.
Cloke - I doubt, but we've met more than once. We certainly have the $, but not sure we'll chase harder than others

The limit is the salary cap unless you are going to free up space.

Angus Graham cheerio - $400k saved
Luke McGuane cheerio or new base contract - $300k saved.

We are front loading heavily to make the minimum. I think Lids was paid $750k last year so we could scrape to 92.5%

Cap is not an issue.

Its vague.

Free agents are free agents, but the problem comes in whether you regard a player as having been retired, or being delisted.

GWS ended up paying draft picks for Cornes, Brogan and Power. I'd imagine they'll do the same thing this year in marginal cases, as its not like we'll be using anything 3rd round or worse.

Cap is not an issue.

Cap is always an issue with long-term contracts. You might be happy to pay someone, say, 1m a year this year, but are you happy guaranteeing to pay that in year 5, given form, injury and the fact your good kids will want raises around then ?
