... this isn't a troll - I'm interested in your take on this. You guys are looking like trading Campo, Lappin, Fevola, Houlihan and Whitnall. Kouta is 33 next year, as well. You have Nick Stevens ready to take the captaincy when he retires (does he have two years left?), but other than him the cupboard is very bare.

Who is going to lead these kids? Can the club really sustain losing that many established players in one hit? What happens to Carlton if you don't win a game next year? Delist another ten?

I guess what I'm asking is... is it really necessary to wipe out your entire senior group in one hit? Is this the way out of the malaise?

They are shopping round all these players, but mark my words no mroe than two will leave. Like today they said if Lance goes fev stays and vice versa, now they are saying neither of the two are leaving. Fair enough Camoreales walked out but I dont want him influencing the young guys with all his whining and bu#@ sh%$.

I agree we should not be geting rid of the senior players.... Who is going to rally the kids we have.... And building a loosing mentallity will put us in the St Kilda realm....

I dont want to spend years and years at the bottom like they did,,,,

there needs to be a balance....

but will have to wait till after Silly season to see what happens and who is left.....

Fair question ...

I dont think/hope fev will be going anywhere unless a bloody good deal pops up ...

Lance we should trade as he doesnt really fit with pagans game plan ... If we could snare another 1st round pick and player id be happy to live with that ... If we trade both fev and lance we will be royally f.ucked for the next 2-3 years!!!!

Campo i feel really sorry for ... he is a true clubman and deserves to play his career out at carlton!!!

Houla is 22 and should be persisted with imo ...

Lappin has value on the mkt and should be shopped around ... a team like the saints should go for him ... we could even try and snare a luke penny or something for him?

Couldnt agree more.... Campo should stay deserves to finish his career at the blues.... They say we still want him .... But they can agree on the contract....

I think he wants 3 yrs and we only want to give 2 or something like that,,, Shame.... Cause hes 30 and alot of clubs may not want him because of his age,......

I think players under 26 seem to have more value because the have matured and tend to be in their prime....

the next group of leaders will come from stevens, waite, thornton, fisher
we have frenc for a couple more years

we finished bottom, so there needs to be some changes-
how drastic? well you never really know.

carltons problems over the last few years has been inconsistency and a reliance on too few to do the bulk of the work
for years we have relied on our core senior group who were absolute guns, we don't have that anymore

maybe giving our younger players more responsibility and another challenge will bring out the best in them and allow them to rise to the challenge
you don't know if someone is a good leader until you give htem an opportunity.

wiping out the slate may be the best option, allow carlton to rebuild with fresh faces and with young players who are willing to learn and are not yet set in their ways, who are all about winning premierships and not about looking their financial security

there is no right or wrong answer and only time will tell, but if carlton are going to rebuild they need to follow through and make sure they do not do it half heartedly- no hedging bets.

Our younger players are better leaders then our seniors, Simpson, Bentick and Carrazo are all good kids, but the one with the most leadership is A Walker and he will be in the leadership group.
Plus we got Fisher and Waite and who can forget that game waite played the day after his dad died, he has leadership coming out of his back side. Thornton isnt to bad either in this department, Leadership doesnt necesarly need to be your older players.

I agree with bibi's slant on this for the most part. Our young guys have started to find their own way forward as the older guys have not been setting good examples. Houlihan is not a leader, Lappin and Camporeale at times disinterested, Fevola ... well nothing more to say. Lance is a leader so it would be good to keep him for that leadership. Is it more preferable to retain a senior core if they are setting a poor example or to get rid of the senior core and let the youngsters find their own way forward?

I Think Barnaby should be made a vice captain, or at the least part of the leadership group.

He didn't come til us later in his career but since the day he first pulled on our jumper i don't think any other player at that club has had as red hot a dip as he has.

Teague is another who's hardness at the ball and willingness to have a crack when the chips are down is another player who could be included in the leadership group.

Maybe even the much maligned Livo could find himself in the group.

Why do you feel sorry for him, he is the one walking out on us... He had the chance to play out his career with us.

That comment sounded ridiculous, but I suppose if Prenda can find himself in the leadership ground than Livo could well fit in lol.

We have to give Livo some credit.

He's not been the luckiest player in his time at the club with injuries.

He's copped alot of crap from supporters.

Never been in any trouble outside of football.

And finally this year we did see a few glimpses that he may well be able to hold down a spot at FUB until we find a better option.

It's not like he doesn't try when he's on the ground and FUB isn't an easy position to hold down.

Maybe giving him added responsibility will make him take another step forward in his career.

Get rid of the poop, deadwood & malingerers, the leaders will then rise from what is left. There are some genuine leaders on our list right now amongst the young guys, there has to be surely. With a solid cleanout, they will be able to show their leadership skills a little more by being quite prominent instead of being in the shadows behind those guys named above.

Hmmm - Kouta - well i'd say one more in 2007 but who know's
- Big Red - have to keep him really
- Fev - same as Lance
- Campo - crap that he's walking out, should only get a 2year deal max
- Skinny - would like him to stay also, 29 years old, 3 years probably one
too many, nothing been said about him lately, must be
nominating for the pre season draft
- Houla - persisted long enough - trade
- T-Bird - it's time Thornton took a leadership role
- Waitey - also time for leadership
- Stevo - next captain - 2007
- Scotland - leadership perhaps ????
