After being refused permission to be a runner, former assistant coach and now
development officer Peter German will spend the rest of the season on the
bench.
German will act as the interchange manager, speaking to players as they
come off the field.
The Eagles wanted to use German's coaching box knowledge to their
advantage, but the AFL pointed to the rulebook which forbids listed players and
coaches from acting as runners.
German's presence on the bench will allow him to pass on Ken Judge's
thoughts to players without having to distract Judge himself from the continuing
match.
