Mate , you couldn't be further from the truth. 2010 we were handball happy which played right into your hands - 2011 we learnt our lessons and spread better and kicked more often and longer - either to a free player or contest and backed ourselves to win the contest. You can be as manic as you like but when the ball is sailing over your heads 40 metres downfield all you do is waste energy. Our game evolves every year so it's back to the drawing board in 2012.The game plan to beat Geelong regardless of a box formation, press, game of chess was centred around manic pressure enacted by capable bodies and a killer instinct, not to mention a fit list the majority of whom had played together for a few years. With players missing this year and new ones coming in, there was always going to be an issue with a precise plan. You can't have a small drop in hunger and expect to go back to back.
Buckley comes in, puts everyone on notice, on and off the field and you may find that the Pies start hunting again.
Geelong hunted us down and got the kill. Was it excellent strategy? No. They had better players when it counted and they were encouraged to back themselves all year. I'm not sure whether Mick's iron fist approach allowed for too much of that.
