We need to stop their forward entries to win imo.

Does Mayne go to McGovern? If not, does anyone go to him.

Who does Levi go to if anyone?

What about Goldy? Assume Kennedy.

Any thoughts welcome.

Schoffield has caused an inbalance in their back 6.
They have lost a running option which means their half forwards / mids have to push deeper.
They will have to carry the ball longer or take longer passing foward, gives us time to load up our back half.
Key is to disrupt their intercept marks down back, 75% Gov helps, and win ball on the deck.
Remember, 5 minutes out we were up , approx 25 pt turn around.
Extra work also harms their mids to run out the game.

Great post.

Sheppard massive loss for them.

If we stop Gov and Kennedy, we win.

Jeremy McGovern sore just like Dusty was last week.

Again big game, they play him. But if he goes down, it'll free up the tag from Mayne, and their intercept marking to set up from the backline.

I suffered through Slobbo inhaling a kebab of some kind on 360, and they mentioned the three amigos in Ryan, Jetta, and Rioli. Was their influence really that big in the Qualifying Final, that we need to worry about them?

They might pop up for a goal or two. But otherwise, keep the damn thing away from them, and hold the tackles. Drive up the pressure like we did against Richmond. That should be enough.

1990, Half time fight wasn't it? Its a lot of beers ago so memory isn't 100%. :)
Definitely qtr time.

Gavin brown knocked out by one of the Danihers (Terry) but still came back.

I believe Gubby Allen even got involved.

Yep. Our midfield needs to get well on top and stay there. Levi should go to Yeo.

Mayne on McGovern to start, but we better have another option up our sleeve.

Goldy will be on Kennedy, but we should have a plan B and C.

I'm trusting our coaching team who have had some brilliant planning this finals series. Players just need to deliver and the Pies crowd needs to be loud.

Very good.

Our mids need to win the battle.

Then we need pressure like the Richmond game.

Hope you have seen a replay.

Great game.
Yeah I have it was wonderful coming from someone who didn't know the pain of the years it followed. I will be watching the 1990 and 2010 replay probably tonight or tomorrow to start the day off right.

Watching the QF now.

Mayne on McGovern becomes a first play. He killed us in Rd 17 and the 1Q of the QF. I expect he will be less damaging given reduced mobility.
We also need to lower our eyes and spot targets. Hurn and McGovern will take intercept marks if we just bomb it long and high.

Kicks to Cox have to be out in front to run onto. Not on top of his head to spoil and be outbodied by Barrass.

Forget DeGoey in the midfield at the start. Play him up forward. With Sheppard out, he can exploit Cole on a lead.

Greenwood might be a tag option on Yeo or Redden if required. Back our midfield in to win clearances at first. Phillips takes the other as Mayne is forward.

Have to hope that Kennedy doesn't get going. He missed marks in 1H and then kicks for goal in the 2H but won't be as rusty. Goldsack can't hold him though.

Hopefully Howe isn't as rusty either. He coughed up a couple of scoring chances in the 1H with errant kicking. Should be OK against Darling on a lead otherwise.

If we are with them at 3Q time, we should be pretty confident. They ran over the top of us last time but it was 10.30pm on our body clocks when the last quarter started. That's hard to defy. We are a better running team than them. Treloar (time out prior), Pendlebury (illness) and Adams (Yeo hit) should also be more effective late in the game than in the QF.

Offensively: Quickly keep the ball moving forward, and when needed sideways, at all costs. Don't let the eagles flood back and zone. Isolate De Goey and Cox inside our 50. When no target them kick forward to space and trust our running brigade to win possession and pressure.

Defensively: Flood back and fill the defensive 50 with bodies to impair the run of Kennedy. Use Mayne to negate McGovern. Don't be afraid to throw Mihocek down back if Kennedy gets a hold of Goldsack.... throwing Goldy onto McGovrtn then and Mayne back on the wing.

Need Mihochek to remind Gov that he too can play. Varcoe, Maynard, Greenwood to add more grunt. Adams and Sier too. We are just hard team with skills.

One more sleep. Lets do this.
