Seriously, how good is the guy? Someone once told me that he has a knack of performing - when it matters most(unlike some other frontrunners around the world).

I know it's a big call, but he has probably single handedly changed the nature of the game (the batting wicket-keeper) more than any other player in it's history.

He'll go down as one of the best and it'll be a sad day when he puts the gloves down for the last time.

Has certainly struggled of late but last nights innings was pure power and timing. Beautiful to watch.

IMHO that ball by Hoggard to Gilly - the one where Gilly only had to score a couple of runs to make it the fastest test century - and Hoggard bowls it wide (and the umpire doesnt even call it!) was akin to the underarm incident of the Chappell brothers vs New Zealand.

Hoggard should have given him a "fair ball" to play or miss

- Shame on you Hoggard.

May your unsportsman like act haunt you for the rest of your miserable life.

I didn't think it could get any better, after Ponting, Hayden, Hussey and Clarke all making good scores or centuries, but then Gilchrist came out and got the 2nd fastest test century ever!
I'm so happy that he did that, not only because it was the most awesome innings I've ever seen, but because he was out of form and people were calling for him to be replaced. Replacing Gilchrist is crazy, because he can do things like he did yesterday, who else in Australia let alone the world can do that?
Anyway hopefully he can continue this form in Melbourne when I am going :)

Go Gilly!

Oh and I agree, Hoggard is a dog.

I'd calm down about Hoggard - he wouldn't have known the significance of that ball.

Gilly when interviewed afterwards had no idea he was so close to the record.

Interestingly his last 50 of the 100 came in 17 balls!

Outstanding Innings. What a valuable player coming in at number seven. He is also a very good wicketkeeper and not just a part-time keeper selected more for his batting ability.

I doubt Hoggard knew about the record or really cared.

It was the perfect ball really in the sense that Gilly was going to go after anything so getting him reaching could easily have brought his wicket.

Still a fantastic innings which will have more psychological effect of England later on in the series.

I say move the Don from cricket's great pedestal and replace him with Gilly.

A guy overheard me say such a couple of years ago when I was having a beer at a club here in Coolie and as a result wanted to visit my table and knock my block off.

Security handled the issue  .

what about hussey? 2nd best average in the game ever. If he was around in don's era hussey would probably have an average of 150 or higher.

I was never a fan of hussey, i believe hodge was much more deserving, but i now know that he deserves it

Hodge for mine is damn unlucky. Hussey certainly has cemented his place and now Clarke has due to his twin centuries, yet I still am buffled why they put clarke in front of Hodge?

It is almost as if the selectors couldn't wait to get rid of Hodge as soon as Clarke showed some some form. I'm not saying that Clarke is a bad player, but when Clarke was recalled to the side, Hodge should have been in front of him.

I can't see Hodge getting in the side any time soon. He is not an opener and thus is not in line when Hayden or Langer retire/get dropped. Hussey and Clarke are cemented that leaves one place up for grabs. The selectors seem hell bent of having an allrounder and Hodge has no pretentions as a bowler.

Hodge may not get another chance.

It will interesting to see the side for Melbourne and see if Symonds is retained.
