Ok so I am in somewhat an awkward position. Now with the impending absence of Matt Priddis from my midfield, in addition to my already undesirable injury list I am left with SEVEN rookies starting on the ground.

My question is this: It's all well and good to bench a player if it looks like it will only be a 3 or so week injury, but when it gets to 4 of your original starting 22 being injured, costing a considerable amount of points each round, is it time to trade? (18 left)

At what point do you pull the pin? Injury list consists of: Jetta, Dew, Courntey Dempsey and now Priddis. So lets say replacing Priddis with my only other fit midfielder Craig Bird will cost me roughly 50 points a week. 150-200 points in total, is this of equal value to 1 trade? I dont think so, but when you combine it with 3 other positions in similar circumstance it is hard to ignore.

Who is in a similar position? Im of the opinion that it will be better to ride out the slow start (couldnt expect much more than 1900, 2000 and I would be wrapped), save the trades, meanwhile upgrading other players and then make a real run at it when the injured come back.

Im interested to hear others perspectives on these short term injury problems as I'm sure there are others who have the same concern...

I wouldn't sideways trade into Hill. Surely it would be tough for him to keep up this form, you'd have to upgrade anyway.

I have Rioli.

I'm going to get rid of Priddis and I have the money for any elite midfielder. I am currently tossing up between Ablett and Bartel but I just can't decide on one. Can someone point me in the best direction. It could be another midfielder as well so any opinions.

I also have the money for an elite midfielder. But Priddis will be elite by the end of the year. So I'm just gonna sit tight.

You get 20 trades for a reason mate.

You need to use them for circumstances such as that, get rid of the player who's got the longest injury, you cant start to many rookies. Plain and Simple.

I also have Priddis. Just sit tight imo. They say he's out for 3 so just monitor that. If it starts to become more than 3 weeks then consider a trade, if not just ride out the 3 weeks.

You only need to come 8th pre-finals to possibly win your league (granted thats you goal and not overall rankings as much).

Obivously you have a few more injury concerns, but for me id cop the potential losses at the start.

will hid price drop over the 3 weeks he's not playing?

cause if so i'll trade so i have more dosh for a midfielder rather than whatch the great dicline

Players prices are based on their averages, not how many games they play, so no Priddis's price will stay the same until he plays another game :thumbsu:

I'd trade 2 of them.

Jetta hasn't impressed that much, get Hill (and if you have him, Rioli).

I dunno, Jetta has put up a 74, a 48 (in a game that we got SMASHED) and a 44 (in a game that he played 44% of due to injury.)

For 150k, he ain't doing that bad... ;) damn injury.

As for Priddis, we're all carrying our injuries. In a couple of rounds, the cash cows will have matured and the gun will have come down in price and you'll look back a round 4 and laugh. :D

As long as you're not playing 0's, it's all good. :D

Ok iv been wasting alot of valuable uni study time thinking about what to do with Priddis, One of my fav players of the comp and now an absolute star and supercoach genius!, the reports say 3 weeks 'minimum' i can deal with three week but how long before it gets to long? 5 weeks? im aiming to win my league not overall, and i have a though start to the year, im currently on top of the ladder but our comp is very competitive, the loss of priddis could well have me 0-3 in the weeks he's gone.
I really want to hang on to him as i think he has graduated to a Gun better than any other player in the comp.
Thoughts?

I agree, Priddis was going to be a keeper but 3, possibly 4 weeks out is too much to bear when i have other starters sitting on the bench also. I'm also looking at a Cats midfielder to replace him.

I'm considering Bartel and Ablett but I'm worried that they might not play all games because i feel the Cats might have the luxury to rest some players later in the season. kelly has been going well and selecting him will provide further funds to help another upgrade. It'll probably depend on whether other injured players can come back in this week.

That's it, once you trade him out, it's going to be hard to find a reason to bring him back in... (not to mention the shame of it all :D)

I guess it depends, what have you got on the bench to step into his place on the field?

At the moment i have subbed tuck in for him. I also have the cash for any midfielder i want if i want to go down that path. But i agree once he's gone it'll be a stuggle to get him back in

I'm in a similar position, My midfield already is pretty weak, but I've decided that Palmer will be coming off the bench to cover for Priddis for a few weeks. My first game in my league is against a crap team, so I'll see how things go this week, I'll have more cash cows in the bank by then anyhoo. Hopefully this means Masten will get time in the middle of the ground too!

yeh cant decide whther to trade him and have only 17 left or 2 just bench him for 3-4 weeks and play callan/bird instead....

i'd definately trade Gerbil. You don't want to lose too many points early. It'll just make it impossible for you to catch up. Especially with the combination of the rest of your injuries and early points you'd be missing from there. If you've got the cash for a 1 trade upgrade go for it
