So who here shops on GOG? It's the best place to buy old games and it's starting to stockpile a respectable amount of indie games that can be bought drm free. This weekends deal is the entire D&D collection for as little as 22 bucks. That pack includes the two greatest western rpgs of all time in Baldur's Gate II and Planescape Torment so it's absolutely worth it for those two games.

I have about a dozen titles from them. Most good, a few disappointingly nowhere as good as I recall. But the simplicity of the service is fantastic - buy it, download an installer, install the game locally, enjoy.

Yeah, Dosbox can be a gigantic pain in the dick to set up sometimes.

It's funny what the rose coloured glasses do to you. Most games I have got that I played as a Kid don't seem quite as good.

I brought Balders Gate from there recently as when I was a kid I had the disk but traded it for Jazz Jackrabbit 2.

I used to love tweaking DOS back in the day... but not any more! Just make the damn thing work, thank you.
I love it because (as hipster and elitist as it is) it reminds me of a time when you had to have some idea of what you were doing to use a computer. Not just "Duhhhhhhh point click facebook... it's still logged in... haxed!!! Guess who now loves the ****. I'm such a leet haxor."

God damn, Jagged Alliance 2 is still such a fantastic game. Shame on anyone that's never played it.

absolutely. has humor, tension, frustration, inventory management, loads of cool dialogue and characters with personality. i need to strike up a game of this again asap.
i died a little inside at the remake.

if i remember, did gog start out as an abandonware site? i used to follow those quite a bit and still stop by from time to time.

No. I recall Home of the Underdogs back in the day, but GOG started out selling a small selection of games. I was part of the beta.

HotU finally dying for good was depressing. The death of part of my internet childhood.

Still remember the days of trying to get 598k of conventional memory so I could play X-Wing. Was damn hard when I was trying to load MSCDEX as well.

Memmaker.exe!

The real problem was with games that demanded a lot of EMS memory. Boot disks with custom autoexec.bat and config.sys files were the order of the day for games like Ultima VII, and even then they could be a bitch to run.

Luckily U7 was on floppies otherwise you'd have no chance.
