Been told his 196 and 92kg looking Draftable.

Life just got harder for Clayton fitting all these kids in
Have to see how things shake out with JOM and Dion. If all good then look to trade out some of the players on the bottom half of our list (e.g. Hawks - Hallahan, Cheney, Lowden, Anderson)

Our academy is looking better than ever! How many of them are bottom agers? We all know we are well positioned this draft but what about next one?

No Suns bottom agers mentioned in last game against Jets. Crossley . Dawson and Simington are bottom agers and played NEAFL at the weekend . Not sure if they are in the frame for Championship games .

Curtis Marsden seems to be quite the accumulator. Interested to see why he's not making bests when the champs come around. I suspect it's a disposal issue as he has some genuine leg speed.

Thats some serious stats there , huge numbers for under 18 footy.

What's the name of the shrimp that looks like he's about 12? Despite being so small he was really good when I saw him in person a few weeks ago. Just didn't give up - had Touk Miller style second and third efforts.

Corey Mullins. I thought he was very skilled but I wouldn't say he has the hardness of a Touk Miller or Caleb Daniel and would be smaller than them yet again. Didn't make the Queensland side.

GC's Grassroots sport set to boom
THE GOLD Coast’s grassroots community sporting fields are nearly at capacity, sparking a plan to deal with the thousands of youngsters expected to start playing sport by 2031.

According to a council report which this afternoon went before the Community Services Committee, the city will need around 20 hardcourt netball facilities, 14 senior size soccer fields and up to five new clubs to cope with the numbers.

The report on future grassroots action says there will be a need for 10 new rugby league fields and seven Aussie rules fields, the equivalent of four new clubs for each code.

According to the report, current population growth suggests that by 2013 the city will have an extra 2350 soccer players, 2375 netball participants and 2250 league players.

The committee today voted to develop a draft Local Government Infrastructure Plan on how to best prepare for a boom in sporting organisations.

It will go before full council on May 10.
Looks like the city is struggling to keep up with local demands. Seven new Aussie rules fields and four new Aussie rules clubs on the GC over the next 10-15 years should help the academy discover new talent. I'll be interested to see what the full report in the GC Bulletin says tomorrow.

Not unusual - TAC Cup and under 18s football is noted for far out stats.
Coaches cannot tag opposition players - one on one play is minimal - players have to remain in zones - you cannot flood opposition forward lines etc. ( I call U18 football Senior Auskick )
The idea is that skill is on display - so contested situations are minimalized. This so recruiters can judge comparative skills of similar players .
This freedom is best hi- lighted by GWS Academy wingman Kobe Mutch who has recorded 38 & 44 disposals in consecutive games at a very high efficiency . Kobe is a Nation Academy Player and a very good player - but wouldn't you play him closer to shut him down in normal circumstances ? - sorry that's tagging and not allowed. Life is very hard for the specialist defender.
It's not real football in my book.
Also be wary of commentators that continually use stats to promote players - doubt they have the real story......

Brett Anderson is this audio names his top 5 draft rankings this year to date.
Bowes inc.

Also says Bowes kicked 4 goals and had 25touches in a academy trial game and somehow all the vision of that game has gone MIA, but there were a few recruiters on hand to see what he had to offer.

Suns being sneaky?

Was a NEAFL practice match against Brisbane Lions - not an academy match. Jack played well and did Kick 4 goals Not sure of stats but had Suns observers raving .....

Tiger cub Portelli, 15, about to earn stripes
HE is about to "do a Tim Watson" and play his first game of senior football at the age of 15 but young Cooper Portelli has never heard of the Essendon legend.

Still four months shy of his 16th birthday, the Helensvale State High student has been named by Labrador for his QAFL debut in a key match against Mt Gravatt at Cooke-Murphy Oval today.

Obviously nervous heading into his big match, Portelli nevertheless is confident he can handle the occasion.

"I'm pretty stoked, to be honest, and privileged to play and just excited to get out there with the boys," he said.

"It'll be more physical than I'm used to but I guess that is something I have to learn to live with."

Portelli was asked if he knew of Watson, who played 307 AFL matches with Essendon, the first of them as a 15-year-old.

"I've never heard of him," Portelli said apologetically before being told Tim is the father of Brownlow medallist Jobe Watson.
Super Cooper better be in our academy!
