Just wondering what plans people have for the big game this Saturday ? I will be going to a party / BBQ with about thirty people. Will probably start with some beers around 10:00 am to set the standard for he day. How does everyone else spend the biggest day of the year ?

I'll be working this Saturday, but we have muted television screens all over the office, so I'll be watching it at least.

I had to work during the 2010 GF replay as well, no biggie.

I actually go for the swans (2nd team, but watch every game, parents go for them, love them, just when they play West Coast the heart wants what it wants). So I clearly have a team to cheer on this year.

Biggest day of the year for us. At my house this year, everyone rocks up around 11, start a few drinks with absolute electricity and excitement taking over. Always some sort of drinking game during the game til it finishes, cool our jets for an hour or so and get some food before starting the night drinking session at like 4. Always ends up messy. Favorite day of the year

Also by myself, but it's by choice. People piss me off when I try to watch the grand final with a group of mates. All the drunken yelling, and there are always people there who don't even like footy, and are either asking questions about it all the time, or trying to talk to you about something completely irrelevant. Makes it impossible to enjoy the game.

Think the difference is your group of mates. Out of the 10 or so of us I'd say 7-8 are football purists, in that they understand whats going on straight away etc. Don't think I'd watch it with a bunch of people who didn't know what was going on, asking questions, yelling etc as it would certainly ruin the day

The biggest and best day of the year to punish beers on. Will be starting at 10am on the dot with beers and tunes pumping, have our usual drinking game during the game then kicking onto Sunday. Have a good crew of around 15 of us so cannot wait, have been looking forward to it for a month.

Same here, want to watch the game and not have to deal with drunken idiots, or women chatting with each other about anything else than the game. Told the missus that i will not be leaving the house. she is more than welcome to if she's not interested in the game.

Usually have a party with all my old school mates at my parents place in Albury. Haven't organised anything this year as people are off doing different things so I'm not sure what I'll do yet. Bit of a shame really, outside Xmas Eve, it's the one day of the year where all my mates make an effort to catch up as we're split across the eastern seaboard. Probably the last year we could conceivably do it as we're starting to get pretty old in life (24).

Been doing it every year since 2005. Only other year I didn't organise something was in 2010. Luckily fate intervened and I organised one for the replay. Could be an omen? If Channel 7 were broadcasting in 3D I'd be more likely to do something as I'd have the twin TV setup, one on normal and one on 3D. But it looks like they're not even bothering to broadcast in HD.

I actually never really watch the GF too closely. Much prefer to just have a drink or two, keep an eye on the game, and have a chat with people. Used to play drinking games during the game (2007 was the best as we all just cashed in our Port players for Geelong ones) but that always resulted in making it hard to get out that night.

Not sure what I'm doing yet. The rest of my club will be on footy trip which i'm not going on cus i've got exams and shit coming up. will try to get to the pub with the rest of the guys who aren't going, if all else fails, i'll just stay home with the family and watch it with whoever else wants to watch it.

This will be the first one I'll miss since 1992, thank you for choosing the day for your wedding sis. I do get a free haircut out of the deal but still.......I guess it's phone for me.

I like to watch the game on TV with some good food - maybe a steak/chips

This year the wife is heavily experiencing morning(/all day) sickness so if I can just get to watch the game uninterrupted I will be happy..

I know what people mean about watching the game in groups... I went to a mate's place one year and another guest arrived with a big hamper of goodies and plans to cook up a storm - during the game...

I politely declined the need for duck risotto

Last year I decided to go dry for the whole of September & had my first beers for a month on GF day at a party in Port Fairy. As other people have said, there are too many folks wandering in and out who don't care so much about footy which gets annoying. I ended up getting massively drunked and ended up in bed at 8.

This year, my GF and I are heading up to Warburton for a couple of days so might watch it in a pub up there. If we head back to Melb, am toying with the idea of going here - http://www.melbournefringe.com.au/fringe-festival/show/ball/ - but it might be awful. I can always head to another pub to watch the game if it is. I watched the Hawthorn-Adelaide match last week in the 3 Crowns in Nth Melbourne and it was a good atmosphere

I kind of enjoy that. I like the atmosphere when people get involved, when 5 or 6 others have a loudish cry of "what a goal", "How good was that?" etc when someone kicks a decent goal etc...

I know what you mean about the people that don't like the footy though. I think the GF's between 08-11 i flew down to Melbourne just for a mate who held GF parties every year. About 20 people or so would turn up and generally the people not there for the footy stuck with themselves outside in the BBQ area, whilst the rest were in watching the game.

Best day of the year for me personally. I'd rather go somewhere and watch the game over the possibility of losing my job if i was asked to work that day.
