Fall Out Boy

''We finally have moved forward as an organization -- that he isn't coming back, and if he does it's icing on the cake. Then it's an unbelievable bonus,'' chief operating officer John Weisbrod said, calling the Hill situation the organization's biggest miscalculation. ''The way we got ourselves in trouble was believing he would be back soon.'

Sad, but not unexpected.

Ditto that. Unfortunate waste of talent. Really big f/up by the Orlando organisation though if they lose Hill. Tracy "stats" McGrady will be in his element.

It wasnt a **** up by the Orlando Organisation. They made a great move to secure one of the very best players in the league. Unfortunately he got injured and never delivered. A real pity. I still believe that he will be back, Im sure he believes too!

IMO Grant hill is the most talented all around player in the NBA since Jordan came along. As we all know he has never been able to truly demonstrate his talents due to injury. If this is it for Grant, this is one of the saddest stories in the NBA in the past 10 years.

I agree! I have already commented on how talented I thought Grant Hill was and could have become had injury not taken him down. IMO had injury not reared it's ugly head, nobody would be talking about Kobe/T-Mac. The measuring stick would stop at Grant Hill.

Imagine if he had stayed healthy? Would the Lakers have won 3 in a row? Hill in his prime with the T-Mac we see today? A real pity. It's not the end though...cmon Grant...get yourself right and come back and play some ball!

I don't think they should have given a then 28 year old Grant Hill, who had just had ankle surgery, a 7 year deal worth almost $93M US . That wasn't the most prudent business move imho.

They also gave up a guy called Ben Wallace to sign the then injured Grant Hill.

Sure, they couldn't forsee the extent of his problems. But to give a guy with a dodgy ankle, a 7 year, guaranteed contract, was a poor business decision.

This franchise is financially crippled for the next 4 years because if this "great move".

A **** up? I'd say so.

This snippet from an article i found says it all:

The Orlando Magic may become the masters of the bargain basement deal if Hill keeps coming back and then leaving again with ankle problems because his salary will keep counting against the team’s salary cap and will have nothing to go after Duncan with when his contract is up again. A team goes from a possible Eastern Conference dynasty to a middle of the pack entertaining team. What a waste and it all started from a badly diagnosed injury while the player was with another franchise.

A massive **** up, all round.

I disagree. For starters, Grant Hill is easily worth that sort of money when healthy. He did just have an ankle operation, but operations happen all the time in basketball. You get injured, you have an operation to get it fixed and you come back. The Magic had no idea that the ankle would cause this many problems.

Nobody would be saying it was a bad business deal if Hill stayed healthy.

True, but there was just an aura about Hill that made me feel that he was injury prone. I recall teasing you at the start of the season about his ability to stay on the court. A shame, but no great surprise IMO.
