I love grant Thomas, he has had clearly the best list along with the best draft picks and still gets knowhere, and he talks about tactics go out the windows in games like that, what the hell, thats why u guys continue to lose games u shouldn't, no plan b, c etc, but hey u did have a grand final coach who had coached 9 yrs for 5 grand finals appearnces and a prem final but Grant Thomas knew what he was doing in shafting Blight, unfortunaley for u guys he shafted all the fans and supporters at ever seeing a flag

thomas time to get a real job mate and stop treating the saints fans as idiots, the window has nearly been shut and it's time to get someone else in and time to put egos to the side, Malcom Blight would just be laughing i reckon at what this clown has achieved, look at Neil craig yday, no excuses with injuries in his squad, just get on with business, u r a clown Thomas a laughing stock of the AFL and if u stay on i will enjoy the comedy u produce each year, u r a pathetic human been who has his head way to far up his ars e to know whats best, complete disgrace.

spanner no need to attack me pal...i have an opinion as do you so get off my case..i think malcolm blight was way past his use by date when he came to the saints and the body language that he gave off whilst with stkilda football club was poor. so spanner as i said before i have my opinion and you have yours and this is a forum isnt it?

The guy who would have got you at least 1 flag maybe 2

I totally disagree birdman i saw M blight in action for the stkilda football club and mate his heart was not in it by a long way. i witnessed after a loss to melbourne at telstra dome one night m blight order our players (including players who had soft tissue injuries and icepacks hanging off their bodies0 back onto the ground and did training drills. not a good way for our guys to recover in my mind.i think you will find a fair few instances of similar 'quirky" ideas from m blight at the saints. As i have said before birdman its my opinion and i respect you for yours.

Blight was an amazing coach in his time but when we sacked him after round 16, he was still living on the Gold Coast and promising to move to Melbourne. The mistake we made was in talking him into it in the first place. You can bag Butterss regarding his replacement, but I believe strongly that he did the right thing in getting rid of Blight.

Probably a bit of a pointless argument. Blight was a much better coach than Thomas could ever hope to be. But if he wasn't prepared to move down to Melbourne (as has been said) then he wasn't dedicating himself to the club. So a move was made.

I agree that if Blight had stayed, and more importantly had dedicated himself fully to the job, the Saints might have nabbed a flag by now. He didn't, the saints haven't won one, and what matters is where they go from here. Thomas should move on, but there is a question over who replaces him. None of the "name" coaches are available, so it would have to be an untried Assistant. If it was my decision I would look at Cresswell, McKenna or O'Donnell, in that order. A bit of a risk, but one that you probably have to take at this stage.

Totally agree, Blighty's heart wasn't in it. Grant Thomas is a pretty ordinary match-day coach, but has done a great job developing the right sort of culture at St. Kilda. They are the most "team first" group of players I've seen at St. Kilda, real professionals, and I think a lot of the credit for that goes to Grant Thomas. It'd be great if we did get a match-day coach, but keeping Grant Thomas on in any capacity if we do that won't be tenable, since he pretty much boned Blighty. Might be time to go Grant.

Brief summary of this thread

St Kilda supporters (spoonhead spinner excluded) - Blight needed to be sacked

Supporters from other clubs who should have better things to do than be posting on St Kilda page - Malcolm was great, you would have won 10 flags by now if you still had him

Regardless of G Thomas' skill (or lack of), Blight should have never been hired. If he hadn't of, St Kilda would have signed Chris Connolly as coach.

Fremantle & St Kilda - two very talented lists
Fremantle - one great home ground advantage

Thomas' record in finals: 2-4
Connolly's record in finals: 0-2

Its so funny how Saint supporters defend Thomas....

Cracks me up every year....

If that was Hawthorn with the talented squad you guys have got and nothing to show for it after 4, 5 years....I would be calling for his head....

It is time to change something dont you think....

Okay MB may not have been right for the Saints, but surely StKilda has got a few dollars in the kitty now to go and head hunt someone far better, someone who has won a premeirship....

What do you think will happen to AC, he will get a go for a bit since he helped rebuild the side then if no results (and no excuses) we will find someone else...It is only a job...

Although I agree with Della, it is funny....

Ok spinner watever you think mate...Moderators can one of you please ask spanner to keep his personal vitriole towards me to himself. i dont think that i deserve to be attacked by him when ever i reply or post a thread in here. Obviously if one has a differing opinion to spinner one is a nobrainer or a expletive in spinners eyes. I am a unashamed fan of the stkilda football club and all that sail in her. I know that we have underperformed this year but i believe that the stability in the playing group is half of the battle. we will get over our injuries and rest and then have a huge pre season ready for 2007. I expect we will lose a few on the way but thats the way the cookie crumbles. If and thats a big if the club decided to withdraw Grants contract then i would embrace the incomong coach with outstretched arms as longas he was there for all the right reasons...whick IMHO spinner Malcolm BLIGHT was not. If you decide to rely spinner can you please refrain from all the bad language that you usually reply with. thanks in advance

Saying Blight would get us a flag if he stayed on is like saying "Let's bring Allan Jeans back now". Blight was past it, even though he was only about 51 when he started coaching. He didn't care then and maybe he's easing back into it with his commentary role, but he would have got us nowhere.

Nice try but Freo have a list ready to head north and you guys have returned and are heading south...I wouldnt start comparing Freo and Saints.

I liked Grant but he will be remembered for not grabbing a ruckman when your window was open - John Worsfold may be remembered for not getting a key foward during their window...

I still think the Saints list is ok but your "young" blokes now look like battled scarred 30 yr olds and a couple of key knees wont help your speed issues...

take it from a cat supporter - you can go from contention to also ran very quickly - maybe the change is for the best.
