JASON Winderlich was just 24 years old when he was forced to think seriously about life after football.
It was October last year, and Winderlich had just had a second operation for the prolapsed disc in his back that had forced him out of the game some 10 weeks earlier.
The first operation had not been a success, and after months of being unable to move freely, Winderlich had to go back under the surgeon's knife. But by then he had begun to wonder if he would ever get back to the physical condition that had allowed him to establish himself as one of Essendon's speediest players.
