Arrived at the club a year after we made the Prelim. His role when he arrived was to catch the big fish, First it was Stafford then Brown then kane Johnson. Got Blumfield a premiership player very cheaply and instigated a few other trades under Frawley. It was his role and he did it very well. Wether it was the right path to go down is debatable but he got the deals done, something this club previously had little success in and I'm sure he was working with spuds wishlist.

Then after a poor season 2004 he was instrumental in replacing Spud with TW with very little blood spilt. Suddenly we had a coach serve out his contract and the clubs reputation was, for the first time, clean of any back stabbing. TW arrives with a 5 year deal and a long term plan of constant drafting and rebuilding, something the club was never brave enough to publicly announce before. TW and Miller represented a strong and committed team with a PLAN. With very little resources small steps were taken.

The Plan is almost 4 years old. The list has been rebuilt from the ground up. A dynamic Defense built from the rookie list, an ever improving midfield and a forward line that seems to have come from no where. The team is improving and with the pure weight of numbers of our talented kids will surely be a force in the near future.

Now it seems that the club has for what ever reason... I'm sure we will hear why soon.... sacked Greg Miller.

Wether or not you are a Miller fan you can not deny that he has been the influence this club needed in the transition from Spud to TW. He was instrumental in recruiting and got deals done. Most deals have been to our clubs advantage. Polak.... Morton... Brown...Simmonds.... and our list is the healthest it has been since I can remember.

I just hope that who ever replaces Miller has the knowledge and know how that Miller has shown, and the club is honest enough to recognised what Miller has achieved at a club that is forever to eating their own.

Greg Miller thanks for your work

Without having all the information on hand, I can't help but think "not again".

If it is revealed that Miller was sacked for a real reason (rumour is that he was snooping around the GC17 market) then i am fine with that. But i just hope that Tony Free hasn't been behind pulling the trigger on the man that has been influential in putting this club back on track. This club has a history of eating their own. I hope this time is not a repeat :o

Greg Miller has never had a Contract with us from what I remember, the way the AFL has been snooping around clubs trying to poach personnel for GC17 I'm sure Miller has been approached.

Whatever the case is nut...something doesn't seem right in this situation.

For Greg Miller to do a runner he either has done something wrong (and he knows it) or the club has done something very wrong to him.

It just isn't sitting well with me at the moment.

Same here.

I'm only speculating when I say this... I believe the club decided this a while ago probably early this year when we were traveling poorly. The move to bring Tony Free to the club was the tool to put this in motion. Maybe no one at the club had the Balls to approach Miller and we needed a hit man?

With greg Miller gone TW losers his greatest supporter and he to becomes vunerable.

I just hope what ever is going down doesn't unsettle the club like it has in the past.

Disagree. Bought Wallace (pretty easy really).

Tried to buy Solomon (went to London remember?), Copeland and stuffed up the Zantuck trade. Was the sole reason Casey was re-elected, threatening to leave if Casey went. Oversaw a shocking increase in footy dept spending and a big reason why we are still $4m in debt.

No idea about corporate governance and I am delighted he's gone. Should have left in 2004.

Great news:thumbsu::thumbsu:

FIRSTLY: increase in footy dept spending = Great news:thumbsu::thumbsu:

SECONDLY: "a big reason why we are still $4b in debt" I highly doubt it. Source??? (And "I just know" doesnt count)

Miller & Co ------> where we are now = Simmonds, Brown, Wallace, Deledio, Tambling, Huges, Riewoldt, Cotchin, etc = Job well done :thumbsu:

And you're "delighted" he's gone? Good grief.

He was the Football manager..... his Responsiblities was recruitment and list management not overseeing the finances..... I'm sure he something to do with the Beaconsfield mining disaster and the yellow wiggle getting sick.

Mate, we're 9th.... signs are improving, but not exactly sacking the football mgr equivalent of Norm Smith here are we.

He was handed the keys and ran up bills we couldn't pay. That's bad. You obviously don't run a business.

$4m debt - look at your annual report. It's actually a bit higher. Caroline Wilson's article from this morning also confirms this. Want me to organise a club bank statement for you?

He cost the club a better board and his support of that dolt Casey was shocking. Shame on anyone who voted for him.

To say that I'm delighted he's gone is an understatement. I'm deliriously delighted. Very ordinary man.

He was a Board member. Thus he shares responsibility for our financial plight. Melbourne has $5.7m debt and is doing an emergency fundraising campaign.... we have $4m in debt!!

Recruitment - thank heavens he was bad at his job. Otherwise we'd have Dean Solomon on $600K a year with 2 years to go (and 2 less very good players we would have given up to get Solomon) and Copeland.

Are you honestly saying that his "recruitment" of Deledio was good? My mother could have done that!

Wake up and start informing yourself. Miller's departure is a terrific advancement for our club

thought march was going alright and club was finally in good shape thanks to Greg Miller. March better have a F#@%ing good reason because if he doesnt he should be F#@$ing hung from the Jack Dyer stand, to destabilise the club when things are finally starting to look good.

I'd love March to get the boot too.

* Edited for accuracy

RFC made a record profit of over $1 million in 2007.

You dont sound like a grass roots Tiger supporter, but more like someone with a political agenda with a stake in the board. :thumbsd:

Caroline Wilson confirming something is hardly factual. Peddle this rubbish elsewhere.

You don't sound like you have the slightest idea what you are talking about!! Richmond made a $1m profit last year, but the telly rights have rather helped don't you think?

From last Monday's Age (Michael Gleeson):

As a result of Richmond's funding coup, the club can now concentrate on repaying a further chunk from its worrying $4 million debt.

Happy to concede now? Suck it up....

I was involved with the Big 4 ticket, yes. Thus, I saw some things that make me highly qualified to comment on Miller. Don't even get me started on his mate Casey.

With each passing hour I get happier and happier that Miller was sacked. Suck it up....:D:D:D

what are you suggesting UG , we didnt account for that, is part of revnue stream...I understand we'll turn a profit again this year

My point BJ, was that the TV rights $ enabled every Melbourne club to make a profit last year (i'm pretty darn sure this is right). We should be pleased with our result, but the TV rights have made the job of every AFL CEO easier in recent years.

We'll make profits this year too - which is great. Not as big a profit as we'd make if we didn't have a $4m debt to service, but we're coming good - that's clear.

UG, debt in itself is not a crime, a necessary eveil to invest for the future. It's the ability to service that debt and remain liquid that is key. I think you'd find that most Melb clubs would be in debt. and on that other point not all clubs made profuuits , there were those on additional grants that still only balanced the books

So it;s millers fault we are in debt? Is that what you are saying???

Lets go back to the days before Miller when we were paying %100 of the salary cap for a team that didn't even play finals, lets over pay players like Daffy, Campbell, Knights, Rogers, Gale, David Bourke, Gaspar, Holland etc... etc... or better still lets get these blokes back into the club now and get them to show us how to screw up list a properly by undermining everyone and rewarding mediocre !!!!!.......

BASH miller all you want but NEVER try telling me we are not in a better position now then what we were before he arrived, we were a basket case, a club run by it's players.. players that put money before the club...

Greg Miller thanks for your work

Exactly right.

All the knobs saying that he made poor choices at the draft table, well, look...

for the first time that I can remember, we are at the middle of the ladder because of young players, rather than in spite of them.

If there is nothing more to this saga than we've heard, then we have evidence that the club still has a ****ed culture that will lead us out of the jaws of something new, back into the old days of business as usual, which = 100% loserdom.
