There was a study released a few months ago about how important grit is in success.
one of the main sentences the researcher used was
"grit is not just having resilience in the face of failure, but also having deep commitments that you remain loyal to over many years."
at the moment, our team is not showing enough grit. not enough players are showing enough resilience when the heat is on, over long periods of time. our coaching staff, in my opinion, are also not showing that they are remining loyal to a plan that was set about 4 years ago. even from last year, our game plan and basic structure has changed significantly.
from 2010 -2013 (dimmas tenure) we have had a game plan revolving around our best players playing in the middle of the park, and our focal point in attack being Jack. now, we have diverted from that path, and are not having ou best midfielders in the crux of the battle for anywhere near long enough, and have taken a path of "spreading the load' in the forward line to not become '1 dimensional'
whether this is a good game plan or not remains to be seen but if it fails it will come down to 1 of two things
a) the players dont have enough 'grit' to bounce back from a very ordinary start to the season, and we get to the end of year having massively underachieved when we were expected to crack the top 4; or
b) dimma and the coaching staff have not remained loyal to the game plan and structure that, for the past 4 seasons, have seen us improve to a state that we have been talked about as a top 4 team, and the players have found it too difficult to change 4 years worth of game style in 12 months.
either way, both the players and dimma have 18 games to show some true grit in digging deep, and getting the clubs season back on course, before we get to the end of the season and realise what could have been a fantastic seasaon for the club and supporters, has been entirely wasted.
